I've enjoyed Cavill so on that level I'm sorry he's leaving.

Roles get re-cast all the time though, so like, I'm not prepared to write the whole show off right now just for that.

(Plus everyone's done the Bond comparisons already.)

I don't know anything about not-Chris Hemsworth - is it his brother? I can't really place anything he's been in.

This is really disappointing news. However, Liam McIntyre was physically completely different and inferior to Andy Whitfield, yet Spartacus remained compelling viewing all the same. I have major reservations, but I’ll wait and give season four a chance first rather than just writing it off in advance.

Shit :(

And just to make Superman movies. Fucking Superman! Fuck

The internet says it’s because Netflix isn’t respecting the lore.

Even just last year, Cavill told The Hollywood Reporter that he was committed to The Witcher showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich’s plan for the show to run seven seasons. “Absolutely,” he said. “As long as we can keep telling great stories which honor [author Andrzej] Sapkowski’s work.”

Yeah that began to circulate after I posted that. As a fan of the games who also likes the books, it's disappointing all-round. Apparently some of the show writers actively hated the books. I mean, why even hire those specific writers for this show then?

We should change what I have marked in red. Also what I’ve marked in yellow, blue and green. Oh, and we should ditch chapter three and make it more like Star Trek, with a touch of game of thrones. I’m sure we will have great success and make tons of money. We don’t need Cavill anyhow, he’s just really a nerd with emotional ties to the story. Let’s cast Thor, oh can’t have him then cast his brother it’s the next best thing.

Now make a memo out of this, and pass it around!

The internet is full of shit. The books aren't very good.

And the show is! If bringing in someone who hates the books but, you know, is a good writer that knows how to make good television improves things then fucking go for it. The idea that you should sit around the writer's room totally loving everything that happens on every page of the source material in order to make a good adaptation is a complete fallacy. You end up with shitey fan fiction made for an incredibly small group of people in the grand scheme of things. And those people will be disappointed anyway because Geralt's hair is the wrong shade of grey or he uses the wrong school of armour in the wrong time period.

You'd have no The Shining if Kubrick hadn't torn the book apart. No Blade Runner. Lord of the Rings would have been a Bombadil saddled bore.

Let excellent creatives mix shit up and make excellent things.

Cavill isn't full of shit though.

Cavill's not actually said anything though has he? I'm sure him leaving is due to an internet theory that it's because of the writer's not respecting the lore rather than DC offering him an absolute boatload of cash to be in two MASSIVE super hero movies.

He got a better offer and he left.

He said he was committed. He said he would do seven seasons, if they did it right. You dont say that unless you plan on actually doing it. Unless hes some type of cunt, which I dont think he is.

I'm gonna be honest I don't think the average Netflix writing room writer is on Kubrick's level.

While those examples are valid, they're massively outnumbered by y'know, hacks who just triangulate to whatever's currently popular whether it fits the source material or not. Like people trying to stick Marvel quips in everything, or Kurtzman using a literal nudity and gore quota per episode because everything needs to be like Game of Thrones.

That's just PR bullshit. Like Arnie saying every movie is the best one he's ever made.
