Yes, bugs. That became features in Fusion. That's the entire thing: players find bugs, devs polish them into features, gameplay deepens.

So some of the tricks become features, which then tend to be gated and locked along with all the other abilities. Designed in sequence breaks are never the same as accidental ones. Those are tame animals compared with wild ones. Breath of the Wild is so fascinating because the designers never intended half the stuff that has been tried.

Metroid has never been designed as a sandbox. It has always limited your degrees of freedom to a lessor or greeter extent. It has always hidden areas behind key items.  And as amazing as some of the Super sequence breaks, they are defects that are exploited by a tiny minority. Nintendo will firstly want to hear the game towards a bigger market,  and secondly worry that leaving defects in means instead of leaving neat shortcuts,  they are leaving something that might break the game.

I really don't understand this sequence breaking and speed-running thing.  Like those ultra hard Mario levels on Mario Maker... what is the point?!?!

If there's no battle, where's the fun?

Reflecting upon my experience, I think a lot of Metroid-style games would be much better if I could annotate the in-game map. :P

Holy crap, it's literally all I wanted since I first tried a Metroid game - marking up points of interest because the map isn't detailed enough to distinguish temporarily impassable areas (get the ability) from areas that are impassable because they're hard and you die (learn the strategy.) Admittedly I don't own a 3DS and I've only played two or three of the oldest games in the series (so maybe this has been done before in a newer game?), but that's a welcome feature. :)

A few extra tidbits emerged from Treehouse yesterday:

-Game has been in development for the past two years.

-Whilst development is being done by Mercury Steam, Nintendo is leading the production. Director is Takehiko Hosokawa, who also redesigned the map.

-Music is done by the two Super Metroid composers Kenji Yamamoto and Minako Hamano.

Don't give us information like that! We've all been given perfectly understandable reasons why we shouldn't be getting excited for this. This Hosokawa dude and those so called 'composers' are just the icing on a shit cake! :hat:

Coolshop.co.uk have the Collectors Edition up for pre order at £85(!!!). No I've never heard of them either but they look legit. I just placed an order as I've been getting increasingly worried that this edition is going to be super duper Nintendo rare and I really don't wanna miss out on it.

So when do we think the SE will be up for pre-order? I had a hell of a time grabbing a Fire Emblem Echoes one so I'd like to be forewarned this time around!

Really? Amazon.co.uk still have new stock of FE:SOV Special Edition -

That's way too pricey. Even If it came with the 2 new Metroid amiibos (which it doesn't), that's way too much. £49:99 would be a more reasonable price point. It's Metroid so it's possible they'll put another tenner on top to make it £59:99. Guess the official price will be known soon.

Yeah it's really odd with how these things pan out. Sometimes SE's can become very rare, other times they'll end up having more stock than necessary. You won't get any argument from me regarding it's price. I'll be happy to pay less if possible and will place a Amazon or Nintendo pre order if I'm able to grab one when they go up.

What do I know... but of Super, Fusion, Zero Mission, Other M and the Prime games... Super is my least favourite.  It just becomes so brain crushingly frustrating in places and opaque.  To be fair to Super, I played both Fusion and Zero Mission first... and Super felt like a real step back.

I really enjoyed Other M and it's the only one of the 2D ones I've actually fully 100%ed.

And I think I'm going to have to fundamentally disagree with Cy when it comes to opinions on 3D games.

How hard would you say Super is compared to ALTTP which I recently completed?

Super isn't that hard, just ignore Scott as he's clearly having a senior moment. You can easily tell because he claims to remember really enjoying Other M, which just can't be possible unless I've fallen into the dark dimension where people think Other M is a quality product and reality TV stars are presidents. Oh shit.

Hey, Other M was decent. I'd totally play a Switch HD remake.

Looking forward to Samus Returns. Still can't get my head around getting a new Zelda, Mario and Metroid in the same year, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, cos I never owned a Wii U.

Other M was just proof that if your starve someone for long enough, they'll flash guzzle down any old shit with a smile.

Such misery, I thought it was excellent and didn't really understand what the naysayers were whinging about. I even enjoyed the cutscenes.

It starts off as a hot mess with regards to level design and story but the core gameplay is spotless (and an obvious influence on this) and gradually gets to shine as the shackles come off.

Not convinced that preorder price is correct. They're just using the existing description and the only image that have been circulating, I think they're just hoping to get orders by being the first to list it.
