Metroid: Samus Returns

I'm hoping it'll be nearer £60, once we find out the RRP. Also known as when Nintendo list it themselves. Apparently it was up on Amazon.fr for a short while for €50 so hopefully that points to its eventual price.

I finally got around to playing Super Metroid for the first time not that long ago. It took me over 20 hours to complete (with something like a 75% of the items) and obviously with a time of that length I found it pretty tough overall.

The bosses were all disappointingly easy though - every single one of them being beaten (or utterly thrashed) on first attempt - it was the map progression puzzles that tipped the difficulty way over the edge for me. I even took a break for a few days one time because I was so fucked off with being stuck and painstakingly having to comb every area for that one clue I'd missed.. but can totally see why this game is rated so highly and why the significantly easier but legitimately different follow ups (Fusion and Zero - which I had virtually straightforward, stress-free playthoughs of many years ago) don't seem to command the same kind of response. They're practically cuddly and almost toothless compared to their Super NES forefather, in my opinion.

In any case, I'm afraid in terms of excitement for this new one I can't be too enthused as I'm one of the few who didn't rate that 3DS Castlevania particularly much and pretty much regretted the purchase of that cartridge. I'll wait and see what the hardcore fans have to say about Samus Returns after they get to rinse it properly.

It starts off as a hot mess with regards to level design and story but the core gameplay is spotless (and an obvious influence on this) and gradually gets to shine as the shackles come off.

Had the entire game been like the post game it would have been an excellent Metroid game.

Still registering as in stock when I look at it.

Really surprised it's lasted this long TBH. I guess the scare stories of crazy limited stock from the initial Amazon purchases were ill-founded.

I hope people manage to get one who want it, the eBay scalpers have it up as crazy prices.

So the Legacy ver only comes with a download code for the game. Is that normal for Nintendo special eds?

It's a download for Metroid II: Return of Samus which is the Game Boy original. A bit like Metroid 1 came on the cartridge for its remake, Zero Mission, on the GBA.
