Seriously, do it, it's one of those things where if you think you'll like it, you'll like it.  There's one more very neat little trick they pull that isn't the one in my spoiler above that I was particularly impressed with too.

 

(do not read this if you haven't been and intend to)

 

 

 


So they start by getting you all into a cinema and show a short introductory film*  That ends with Daniel, Emma and Rupert walking into the great hall on screen.

 

At which point the screen goes up and the door to the full size Great Hall set from the movies is right there.  Both times I've been they've invited a couple of the kids to "help them" open it.

 

It's a simple trick but as a way of transferring you into that world, it's superb.

 

* Although brilliantly, the guy giving us the introduction billed it as "And to get us ready, a screening of all 8 movies back to back".

The Studio is amazing, even my wife who isn't big on the films and has a real dislike of Daniel Radcliffe enjoyed it. The scale model you talked about was pretty jaw dropping,

especially as you walk round the corner and it comes into view. I wasn't expecting to see the castle just be there like that.

 

When I've finished reading the books and showing the films to my daughter I'm going to take her to see it.

The model is brilliant and was very unexpected when we first went. You walk round the corner and it's just there in front of you, jaw dropped at that point.

 

 

My wife's a huge HP fan and we have been to the studio twice now as they added a number of things since the first time went. We still enjoyed it just as much and probably would go again!

 

It's a shame there's nothing else quite like it I don't think (though there have been attempts by other authors to try and create things just as good and immersive, just nothing's really come close to the magic and wonderment of the world Rowling created I don't think).

My 2nd visit to the studio tour (also at the time, 1 year ago...) was also excellent, obviously the surprises were already known about, but it was in full winter set up, with Yule Ball stuff from Goblet on display.

Absolutely.  Sit in the same seats, watch the same cast, and have it all fresh in your mind.

 

My wife and I met up and went with 2 friends, but her mum and aunt went a couple of days before (weird arrangement to allow for travelling to London, and babysitting for us!)

All 6 of us were blown away.

If you decide to do the play too, I recommend that you get non redistricted view tickets. 90% of the play was fine for us, but some stuff we couldn't see at all and people in front of us kept standing up to look over the banister. Probably explains by restricted view tickets are about £60 for 2 people for both showings

I've only read up to and including Diagon Alley with my daughter but this has already been so awesome.

 

Her face absolutely lit up when Hagrid said 'yer a wizard, Harry'.  It was lovely.

 

I'm doing all the voices too.  I think I'm enjoying it more than she is!!

One of my fondest memories from when I was an English teacher in Japan was taking on the Harry Potter group on Saturday afternoons. Each week, an hour of reading a chapter from the book, naturally 'inspired' by the film actors, followed by an hour of discussion and activities relating to the chapter. It was something of a hit with the middle-aged housewives, I can tell you.

Oh yeah big time, I'm doing Richard Harris as he's easier and also becuase he was the better Dumbledore anyway. Gambon was too rushed/fierce. I struggle with Mcgonagall though, as my Scottish is way off, but my Hagrid and Snape have got loads better the more I've read them

 

My Dobby and Moaning Myrtl though...top draw.

Just started the Goblet of Fire. My daughter is absolutely hooked. We're doing book then film as we go through them. I was slightly concerned how she'd find the dementors but she wasn't bothered by them at all.

 

I think the end of Goblet of Fire might be a bit much for her but we'll see.

 

It's been brilliant reading them together, I forgot how good they are! 

 

Also, I'm brilliant at Dobby, Lucius Malfoy, Mad-Eye Moody and the half-dead Voldemort.

Ha - yeah she was really annoyed that there were changes in the film version of Prisoner of Azkaban.

 

And I told her that as the books go on, they get longer meaning they have to leave bits out.  Her response?  "Why don't they just make 2 films for each book, then?"
