Well that was a rather chill hour or two messing about with the livery editor....

The car viewing mode mode is just car porn. I’m not that way inclined with cars personally but it does do a great job of sexing things up and it’s entert to watch.

Am I missing something here: is there a way to take a picture using the OS share button (basically hide the UI)?

Also, how do you make the cars have travel speed? Unless it’s only on certain scales and I’ve just been unlucky, I’m not sure as it’s always greyed out for me.

You should see shutter speed as an option. I think 1/60th is the slowest (most blur) As with GT5 & 6 though, you'll need to let the image process the changes you are making via the photo mode menu and only then you'll see the blur.

You can also enable car tracking mode in Scapes that blurs the scenery to quite a wide degree. I'm not exactly sure what you're asking with the first point. Race replays will let you take pictures without the UI in them, including interior. The Share button is something that compresses the image quality somewhat and PD like their cars pretty, so if you want the sharpest, you'll unfortunately have to go through the hoops pf saving to your library and copying to USB from there. Currently only one at a time can be copied, though PD did change that with the last two games so you could copy multiples.

@p1nseeker I think they'll drop the always online thing once the game releases. Seems to me that this was the only way they could ensure the game stayed locked until the correct time (stopping all those who pre-downloaded it from getting a head start.) I might be wrong but it isn't by any means certain that always online will be how it'll always be - that'd be a lot of extra work for them.

After a bit of play it looks great and I get on with the handling on a pad (something I never could get to grips with on Project Cars).

It's just the fairly sparse car list and not very interesting looking single player experience that's putting me off a bit I think.

[edit] I entered some event, looked like a rally special stage and there was a message saying "for tight turns try using your side brakes" wtf is a side break? Was trying circle which I thought was handbrake but couldn't get the technique right.

I tried it last night and the actual driving with a pad is fantastic. Difficult enough to be challenging but not Project Cars mental.

Pleasantly surprised and now may pick it up, although the single player campaign looks a bit naff and I don't race online all that often for some reason.

I know this is extremely wishful thinking, but I was browsing some old games on the store and noticed Bloodborne has a note saying PSN+ is required for online play.

GT Sport doesn't have that disclaimer, and I'm currently playing the demo online without PSN+. Could it be an oversight?

Wow, I must be really bad at this game.

Booted it up for the first time last night and immediately jumped into an online game. Waaay off the pace with qualifying, but I'm in that Mazda, and basically have my foot to the floor the whole way round the track apart from one turn, no idea where to make up the time.

Come race time, first lap through the hardish right turn and into the chicane before the start line, looking back my exit speed it faster than the cars behind me, but as I'm going flat out on the straight, everybody just hoons past me, in fact one guy bumped me and I got a slow penalty.

Car setup is all ghosted out, does this unlock by completing tasks in the driving school and challenges? Feels like the other cars have a different gear ratio setup.

Either that or I'm spectacularly crap, but I've always been moderately competitive in Forza, Driveclub and Project Cars. Hmm...

Any advice appreciated! Using expert no assists.

They probably just want as many people as possible to try the game and hopefully buy it afterwards. Only then on release will they inform them they need PS+ so I doubt it's an oversight, it's intentional. What with it being a Sony game and all.

The pre order page does indeed say that PSN+ is required I'm afraid

I did the mazda car one came in 11th I'm assuming you have an advantage if you are using manual gears??

I use automatic like a pussy

I was using Manual gears, and was getting passed handily even with the accelerator floored. In the mazda I struggled to get past 3rd gear.

Had you turned off traction control and all the balancing aids? They will surely slow you down.

Yeah I have it set to expert, with traction down to zero. So to be clear, the car setup adjustments are locked in the mazda race? They don't unlock with completion of driving school or challenges? Crumbs I must be absolutely rubbish, but I don't see how to go faster than full throttle (apart from one corner)

Were you using a pad and the triggers? I couldn't keep pace with any other cars either. Tried switching the throttle to the face buttons and, even though I could barely drive it like that, I knocked 21 seconds off my lap time. It feels like the triggers aren't giving the full range of throttle for some reason.

Yeah, pad and triggers. Cheers for the tip, will give that a crack tonight.

@JimmytheMook If you've never opened a pad up before, be aware that there's a little spring on each of the triggers, which just loves to ping across the room, never to be seen again.

I managed to fix my trigger by putting a couple of layers of duct tape over the blade on the back of it, which presses on a membrane pad. That extra thickness seems to have sorted it. Before, I couldn't even do the first driving test (the straight, full throttle run), as my time was 14.2 seconds. Now it's under 12s.

Will get my Thrustmaster T300 RS out tonight for this :) Had a go at GT Sport with a brand new T-GT wheel during a studio visit at Polyphony and it was amazing - even chucking rally cars about was a great joy, despite the still ridiculously wide looped 'stages'.

In fact, this game may just come out on top out of all the new racing games this season - this handling just feels right and I'm very excited to see how the online 'esports' racing will pick up. The FIA cooperation should prove extremely valuable if they get it right.

If they do, I don't mind missing out a major career mode like the one I've played through in GT 1 through 6 as well as all the Forza Motorsports.

Like many seasoned GT fans I'm a bit sad to see a major reduction of 1000+ to 170-ish cars, but that's a sacrifice Polyphony just had to make. Yamauchi remains committed to the 9-month capturing process of each model by one designer.

Aye, I've opened it before to put in the xbox sticks, and I remember that little spring making a break for it! It's such a relief to hear this, as it sounds exactly the issue. Same here, couldn't even do the first driving test, was pulling my hair out trying to figure how the hell I couldn't finish in time! Cheers man.

yeah i had the same problem with driveclub and fixed it in a similar way by putting some card in there. i got some replacement membrane bits from china too - which worked worse than the broken original parts.

I found I had a replacement membrane part for the trigger as well. I'd ordered a full pack of replacement membranes about a year ago, to fix the d-pad, I think. I tried replacing the trigger membrane and it worked fine when I just poked it with my finger, but not at all when I used the trigger. I've no idea why it didn't work, as it looked exactly the same size and shape to me.

Any reviews yet as I am concerned with little single player options

Still just the demo out, expect reviews to appear over next week.

And yes, singleplayer options will be limited. No major career mode, just and array of 'challenges' and a hefty focus on online competition.
