Yeah, that really surprised me too. Like you say, Tron isn't her best work, but she's a central figure in early synth scores.

I was agog at the fact that Jay said something along the lines of the first Tron needing "someone who was really good with synth stuff", apparently unaware of who Wendy Carlos is. I'm not particularly a fan of her Tron score but that remark came across as very sloppy.

Carlos is a genius but her Tron score is really poor. It lacks any energy at all.

RLM generally aren't the best when it comes to discussing scores. Either they fail to mention them at all or they just seem to lack the insight to say anything interesting.

Josh Davis is the only one who seems particularly interested in music generally, so it's perhaps not all that surprising.

Took me a good, long while to actually watch any of RLM's stuff in depth. Some of their Half in the Bag videos got into my recommended feed a few years ago and I watched a few minutes but the whole concept seemed pure cringe - so these guys are playing VCR repairmen who get drunk while they review movies? Yikes. Wasn't until some of the Wheel of the Worst videos were suggested to me that I thought 'that looks kinda fun,' and ended up watching loads of them in a row. I previously enjoyed a youtuber called GoodBadFlicks and this is like his stuff dialed up to 11. Somehow both immature and smart, while being absolutely hilarious in places.

Rich Evans' laugh though. Holy shit. If the guy ever gets tired of this gig at RLM he has a bright future in marketing his witch's cackle to car alarms and alarm clocks. It's sad that I dread a film coming along that he finds really funny, as I'll have to sit with the volume control at my fingertips ready to dial it down at his almost passive-aggressive, drawn out shrieking mirth. Not since Jimmy Carr has a laugh been more distracting. Some fans say that it grew on them and now they love it, but I can't ever see that happening with me. Just earns a deep sigh every time.

you will love it in time.

Having already watched a couple dozen videos, I feel qualified to say that I won't. Makes me want to lean in and fucking strangle the guy.

They made a good point about a lot of modern blockbusters in the Tron video, where the director 'directs' the traditional drama and then any action is just handed off to the second unit and VFX team and you end up with jarring shifts in style.

I mean, technically yes, but these days it's nothing more than a super vague premise that lasts all of 20 seconds or so at the start/end of each video. They dropped the ongoing story stuff long ago, it's now just an (intentionally) very tenuous link into talking about a movie.

If you've not already, I'd recommend trying some of the more modern ones - if you like Mike/Jay in general and enjoy BOTW then you'd probably enjoy it.

Yeah, they massively lean into the naffness of the VCR repair shop lark now, to the point that they even looked vaguely pissed off by it. Recommend their HitB for Rogue One; I like the film a lot more than they do but thoroughly enjoy how they break it down, right from the OTT intro, which broke new ground!

Been saving a few BotW as binged a lot of them in order last year. It's such a brilliantly simple concept, especially the Wheel of the Worst spin-off. This might be the peak (but not really because there's usually gold in most episodes)

Omg the angry parasite-hating redneck, that's amazing and depressing.

Haven't seen Dr Sleep, need to check it out.
