They literally did port them to the Switch. (Yeah, localization, etc. but still)

Not liking the graphics in comparison to the original 2d ones. And if any of the improvements are in the same vein as those introduced in seiken densetsu 3 they can stuff it as that game was shit in every way compared to the previous one.

Nope. I was horrified like one of the worst gaming fanboys. I don't usually give a shit about these things but SoM was arguably one of the most important games of my youth. Me and a mate playing through it pretty much every night after school for a month or something. Even got back in touch with him in 2014 for a 20 year anniversary playthrough. Not the same as when we were 14. 

 

SoM is my one sacred game and that clip, and especially that voice, make me understand how those people felt about that Danish Mohammed depiction.

I wouldn't go quite that far, but it's a shame they didn't keep it 2D and redrew it in a much higher resolution, like the Day of the Tentacle remake. I'd have been all over that.

Wonder if they'll include/how they'll do super magic as you approach 8:99. Always thought it incredible that the best graphical effects in the original game were something the average player probably never saw.

I meant it as a purely visual example. The gameplay of Secret of Mana easily holds up still, so a similar faithful update would have been amazing.

Did anyone ever figure out how it worked exactly? I remember you could recast the same magic to engage the 8:99 effect, so it seemed to somehow 'stack' the level the of the spell until the maximum was reached. God, max Dark Force was awesome.

So it seems the music is indeed recycled from the Genesis album. Which is great news as it's a really good rearrangement, but it is kind of silly how little effort went into this then. Feels like they made the mobile/Vita version and tarted it up with some remaining assets. Wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be another TOSE job (not that TOSE is bad, but when SE employs them they usually don't get to flex their muscle).

 

More pressingly, the 100% weapon charge 'blink' is gone, which means you do not have a visual cue that you can strike at full power again. Instead, you have to depend on the associated sound effect which will be incredibly annoying with 3 players at once. Hopefully this will be fixed.

 

And yes, NON-DANCING MERCHANTS ARE A DISGRACE.
