Funnily enough, I've just dusted off my Xbox. Mostly for Coinops, but I keep thinking I've missed out by never really using it for anything other than xbmc and emulation.

It's got soooo many great games on it. I love the Xbox :)

Should the subs copies have arrived by now?

Damn, XBox, tried to hack it but ended up breaking the whole thing, wont even boot up now.

Cashgen have a £20 console atm in dundee, but im worried ill break it again. Just love that big ol' box

Edit: Bought my last one from cashgen, they said if i modded it the warranty would be void. However upon turning it upside down its VERY evident that it had already been opened up and hacked, so ended up in shits creek without a paddle :<

I use my Xbox all the time for normal gaming, arcade emulation, even a bit of XBMC still. It's a fantastic machine and if it wasn't for the sales behemoth that was the PS2 it would have been huge. It certainly deserved to be. Looking forward to reading that.

I could never get along with the pad. The triggers were great, but I find the face buttons a bit unpleasant to use. They just feel a bit odd...

I can see where you're coming from. The buttons are a little too close together for comfort. That said, the original controller remains one of my favourites, only bettered by the X360 controller. It's heavy, but feels comfortable in the hand; much better than the hand cramping PS2 controller.

I've still got my Xbox set up and love it to bits, but the games library has aged badly. It doesn't have the exclusives games that made the PS2 and many of the PC ports are looking distinctly primitive nowadays.

I haven't had a chance to read the latest issue of RG beyond Strider's intro page, but immediately noticed the paper quality is a huge improvement over recent issues. It's great to have the glossy pages of older issues back again.

There's some great anecdotes from seamus blackley.

my favourite is "it was called the coffin box at work because everyone said it meant your career was ruined. I'd assure them that it was going to be amazing and then I'd drive home crying"

The S was soooo right after the Duke.

and informed

The S came out 11 months after the original duke controller and replaced it as a pack-in thereafter. We felt that as a result more people would recognise it and it's cool shape also allowed us to do something really clever by matching it's up with the Xbox to complete a circle :)

Plus it's a miles better pad.

Xbox is crap for emulation. It's bloody excellent for Xbox games though! Much like the PSP, its excellent software gets overlooked for cheap and free gaming.

Take that back!! :) I loved it for emulation, in still thinking it's better than the Wii for emus. Shame it's an ugly massive box!

I played the shit out of rainbow six online. It was the console I actually spent a lot of time playing.

I had four of them LAN'd up at one point, with a telly each, for Halo sessions.  We'd drink beer, eat dirty snacks and play all weekend.  I loved the Xbox.  I couldn't drive when it came out, but I managed to talk my chum into running me into town to buy one with Halo.  We stopped off at the local Cash 'n' Carry for supplies on the way home, and I don't think we emerged from my house for about three days.

I find the emulation for older systems up to 16bit far better on Wii. The output the correct resolution for a start.

Not sure about MAME though.

The Xbox is my least favourite console from that generation... but Amped 2 is the best snowboarding game I’ve ever played. It looks glorious in 720p! It’s the main reason I still have my modded Crystal Xbox.

XBMC was incredible to have at the time.
