Priscilla's tail. What's the best way to cut it off? I'm rocking a +10 Divine Lucerne, but I don't think it'll do enough damage to get it off in one swipe.

Most weapons with vertical swing will do (Clay/Bastard /Zwei etc). Also Great Combustion/ couple of WOG blasts.

If it’s the first time go in and hit the tail once to start the fight, you can get another swipe in as she’s disappearing because she doesn’t move then.

Amazing the way this game seeps into your brain and you start planning different routes and strategies even when you're not playing it.

The sheer variety of builds and routes on offer make it compelling in a way that the other Souls games just didn't match. Even now I can be stuck down in the Depths, find/buy a new weapon or item that will completely change the way I think about the rest of the map, prompting a farming/killing/cop-op run through areas that I've been through hundreds (if not thousands) of times but everything will have a fresh sense of purpose.

It's really worth getting out of your Souls comfort zone and trying a fresh build that you've never rolled before. My Faith/STR build has completely rejuvenated my approach and made me less weary about the remaster. Its just incredible how much variety and depth there is in this game, it almost feels endless.

Fucking bone wheel skeletons!

They are grim, as I mentioned earlier if you can use an eagle shield that will help.

I'm farming the bird ladies at the moment (I don't do PvP) and they have an annoying move which one shots me on full health.

What do the bird ladies drop? They don't like my katana, in fact anything that bleeds doesn't like my katana.

That was awesome, Broker. Would you mind posting your build, please?

Like stats? It was a little while ago, I was aiming hard for 40 STR/END. The weapon is a +10 Fire Greataxe, Dingy Robe, Black Leather Legs.

For the first time ever, I learned you can see the Moonlight Butterfly at the very start of Darkroot Garden. Where you fight the first ents, look up.

This game.

Just catching up. That's news to me too.

It was only after playing through it numerous times that I noticed the centipede demon stuck to the wall from near the second bonfire in the demon ruins.

Loving Dark Souls tonight.

Escaped Blight Town via the Waterwheel. I still think it’s a crummy area, even at 60fps, but at least I was forewarned, so I got down to the bonfire pretty quickly. No blowpipe bastard left alive. Surfaced at Valley of the Drakes, then out into Darkroot Basin. Killed the Black Knight there and he dropped the Halberd, which was nice. Was planning to head to safety and upgrade some stuff with Andre, but instead cleared out a bit of Darkroot and killed the Moonlight Butterfly. Such a breath of fresh air after Blightsville.

I think I’ve forgotten juuust enough of how everything connects to be nicely surprised by it all. Like, after I killed the butterfly I was like “Oh hang on, Andre is just up here, past the Titanite Demon”. It really is a magnificent world.

I've been having a fine time chipping away at this.

Picking through Sen's Fortress remains as brilliant as ever - the relief when emerging into sunshine on the roof more than compensates for the trickiness of getting up there. I got dropped off at Anor Londo but still had a lot of loose ends to tie up back on the mainland - starting with Sif who was much easier than I remember him being last time I played. I still don't enjoy slaying such a loyal beast but c'est la vie.

I'm now in Demon's Ruins where, having defeated CD, I am now trying to creep past the giant grub things with somewhat limited success (when I finished tonight there was 24,000 odd souls sat in a green pool in the middle of four or five grubs so that's a bother. On the upside, it is very nice chopping Capra's down for fun, and out in the open to boot...

Best game.

Had a great few sessions on this last weekend. Wasn't fussed at first, but it soon gets its hooks in DEEP! Then came the levelling drama; after enough Stamina, what kinda build? Which bothered me, because i've done em all. So as always, i went fashion, and spent a few hours Saturday night farming Balder Knights for their weapons and armour. And once it was done i was happy as can be. :D

I seem to have fallen back into the comfort of my main weapon from my first play through - the good old Claymore. That R2 thrust attack is so useful in corridors, and the spinning run attack is a great way to clear a path through multiple enemies. Then there's the satisfying feeling of slicing a Boss Tail off with a well timed two handed attack. So chunky.

I should mix it up a bit I guess. What's a good alternative to play with?

I started using an Balder Side Sword just before Sen's and it is EXCELLENT so I've upgraded that  all the way to +9. It has pretty much the speed of my trusty broadsword but more range whilst dealing a lot more damage and all with a brilliant thrust attack too. I had a good time with the Claymore on my last run but, having left that dragon till later on this run, I was already powered up with other swords by the time I picked up the claymore or I'd probably have been using that.

I never really found much use for the Drakes Sword aside from using the R2 move to blast a few rats just for a laugh. Aside from that I found my broadsword to me much more effective.

I'm playing a STR-DEX build BTW.

No ways, I was appreciating just how amazing an area it is, that horrible decent is so great, then finding out afterwards that if you go even lower you're basically walking into hell.

I got this and had it framed! Never put it up, though, because my wife has filled every bit of wall space in our house with paintings and photo frames and assorted tat. She seemed to do this at an accelerated rate once I ordered it and showed her.

Sorry, but I genuinely think it's rubbish. I get that it's a descent into hell, but the enemies are uninspiring (those insects in particular), the colour palette is a relentless mush of brown mud and that weird green lighting in the entrance areas, there's nothing to navigate but planks and ladders at the top, and mud at the bottom, it's fiddly to navigate, and there are no memorable encounters. Most of my deaths were down to the tightness of the spaces causing the camera to go a bit wrong, or to gravity.

Basically it's a chore to be dealt with asap. I'm dreading heading back there to deal with Quelaag.

I whole-heartedly disagree with everything you've said and think it's quite a reductive viewpoint. But hey, opinions and we've been on this merry-go round before, so shall leave it at that :)

I have that map! I Laudate Solis  it's called. Used to be on sale via Fangamer but don't think you can get it anymore.

Came in three sizes; Shard, Chunk & Slab. I've got the Chunk size, which is still pretty big but I lusted after an upgrade to Slab for years. It's about the size of a door.

Didn't realise you could buy this. I've followed the guy on Twitter to see when they are available again

@Kevvy MetalI don't think I'm being reductive actually. I think my dislike of it is fairly detailed and reasoned through. I could probably go into more detail about what I don't like about it, but nobody wants to hear that I'm sure! I was hoping I'd like it a lot more with a stable framerate, but alas. :(

The rest of the game is even better than I remember, so you know - I think I'm offering a balanced appraisal.

Quickly realised the graveyard by Firelink was a waste of time after barely surviving 2 skellies there. It's cool how you can dismantle them with heavy attack though. The rest of the smelly army followed me right into the shrine. I really like how the enemies hunt you down through the level in this, in Bloodborne and DS3 they would usually go back to their position rather than chase you. Guessing they changed that to prevent cheesing.

Anyway made my way up into the Undead burg. Nice variety of enemies although due to aforementioned hot pursuits its a pain to do runs back to where you died, with an army of zombies on your heels! I have found chests and just waiting for a mimic to munch me whole, not happened yet though.

At the top I found the demon on the wall top. I killed him second try easily just by chucking some firebombs I'd bought off the vendor in the burg. Kinda like a puzzle boss I guess. Then I finally met Solaire for the first time, I have heard so much about him but DS3 doesn't tell you anything about him really so it's just been off the Praise the Sun memes and I heard its a sorry tale in the end!

Then in a true Souls F.U. I went onto the big bridge over to a cathedral and immediately got roasted alive by a giant Dragon which firebombed the whole area. Thanks Dark Souls. Very like demon souls that bit. After returning to get my souls, the drake is there perched over the bridge, so I think I'll come back later or find another way around, getting tired of these soul retrieval runs. One route left to go, I think, a set of steps going down near the fire barrel trap, where I can see an Anor Londo knight.

Question, I jumped from a rooftop in the berg to some planks leading to an upper floor, and in the corner was a summoning sign or invasion sign for Gravelord somethingorother. A message soon appeared after selecting it that there was no invasions found, or something like that. Does that mean if someone is Gravelord and online then I could invade them? Also I've not seen any summon signs yet, do people not put them around Firelink and the burg? I have orange and white sometimes but not seen summons or been invaded yet.

Are you hollowed or human? You won’t see summon signs unless you consume some humanity and reverse hollowing at a bonfire.
