February Hip-Hop Recommendations

Anyone else heard the Redman Gilla House Ill At Will mixtape? It's not worth buying, but I'd advise Redman fans to DL it.

I C Dead People is a classic. The fact the tape starts with "Ghost Town" in the background and the overall lack of any skits make it one of his best albums to date.

I'm bumpin' funk doc Reggie Noble type sheeeeeit.

Also this week I got the promo of RJD2's new album "Since we last spoke" and it is easily as good if not better than Deadringer. No guest appearances and no rapping to be seen but it's still hip hop.

Not a huuuuge Redman fan musically...I never felt like he was anything more than a generic disciple of EPMD, give me KSolo anyday...

...BUT...

His new tune 'CountdownO4' (is that a Hill Street Blues snippet in the beat) is hot, rapping with malicious intent, growling: "Def Jam lost their soul they forgot how to build an artist - so I'ma fuckin' show em"...and he truly does...

In other news for anybody that hasn't heard Jay-Z's Black Album/Beatles White Album mish-mash here it is for download: Grey Album - DJ Danger Mouse has apparently been served with a cease and desist order from EMI Records that basically said, "Get rid of this album or your ass is as dead as Lennon." In not as many words.

...and on the subject of Jay-Z remix's here's an official remixed collabo of 99 Problems with fellow Roc-A-Fella/Dame Dash signee Samantha Ronson (sister of mark) Jay-Z Ft Sam Ronson - 99 Problems (Remix)

Finally, Pharell and The Neptunes global ownership of music sales continues with their new song She Wants To Move here's the vid: New NERD ...seems like they're finally marketing themselves as a band.

Also new and recommended:

S.A.S. - Don't Even Think About It

Young Gunz - Friday Night

Dirt McGirt aka. ODB - Lift Your Skirt

Beanie Sigel - Where I'm From

Kanye West - Jesus Walks

Freeway - Riding Down The Freeway

Oschino & Sparks - Tame

Cam'ron Vs Led Zeppelin - Shake (GTG Remix)

M.O.P. Vs AC/DC - Fire (GTG Remix)

Twista Vs Duran Duran - Kill Us All (GTG Remix)

I have no idea when the official release date is, but I'm assuming some time late spring/early summer.

Spoke to my mate, who knows El-Eye from Aspects and he said that a single is coming out in April with the album hopefully released in May.

Straight from the horses mouth!

I hope you won't be wearing that mask. It'll cause no end of problems.

In the meantime, DL some A Tribe Called Quest albums (Midnight Marauders perhaps) and some De La Soul stuff (Three Feet High And Rising is the best one).

And DL some Necro as well, he's really cuddly.

He was young and foolish, who hasn't recorded their dislike for blacks on tape at some point in our lifes?

Well me, for one. But my views of black people has changed somewhat.

Oddly, when i lived in Battersea, i was intimidated by them.

Big time actually. But i was only racist once, when i was about 11, and to a mate. suffice to say, I leaned my lesson. And we're still mates.

I guess many people are intimidated, but then if you live in a poor area, then the cheapest ways to earn money are via crime and this is where the problems start.

I mean, we've hit a real vicious circle by segregating people by colour or money and by media and word of mouth.

Bringing more non-productive hate Das, Nice man. While I love being the Biggest Thing in your Itty Bitty World I'm sure others don't necessarily want to view your angry and adolescent name-calling, why don't you just PM me with any future retort eh?.

Anyways this morning, apart from eating lotsa marmite on toast, I've been listening to this old 'Semi-Battle' from Hot97 NY.

Common & Kanye West 12 Minute Freestyle

The stereo in my bedroom plays 'The Message' every morning at 7am. Because I can't be bothered to deactivate the timer. I can't wait till I stay somewhere else one night and it plays the whole thing while my parents are pressing random buttons because they are teh thick!

Has anyone listened to that Eminem produced Tupac Ressurection(sp?) album? Is it any good?
