Recommended Posts

Some good recommendations already (although Derek B's pushing it ;) ).

I'm off to Pete Rock on the Wednesday, anyone else going?

I keep meaning to check Thirstin Howl 'cos I hear nothing but good things but I keep forgeting, i'll look out for it.

Best Tribe LP? thats too hard a question for a Monday morning, for me it used to be Midnight Marauders but I think its Low End Theory now, theres not much in it though

I'll post some recomendations when i'm less busy.

2. Blahzay Blahzay- Blah,Blah,Blah

Amazing east coast flows, Classics such as More Danger and Good Cop Bad Cop

remind me why I started listening to hip hop, Not too easy to find these days.

Danger is an excellent track, I remember watching it every week on YO! MTV Raps for ages. ;)

Devdas has proven his'self as a rock-steady old skool soldja! Hold ya head!

In other news: ATCQ's Low End Theory is one helluva boring album. I don't really go for Quest. It's all a bit bland. The beats on Low End Theory in particular seem rushed or something. It's basic stuff, and it gets boring for me after one listen.

The Meth and Red album Blackout is fairly decent I think. I borrowed it off a mate at the time. It was alright. I certainly wasn't moved into copying it never mind buying it. Lots of shite on there as well as a couple of bangers.

This post reads like the language of haters, I'm afraid. I'll be back to post some positive recommendations.

I'm short of cash, so I'll only go if I can get in free. It should be a kick-ass show.

Don't rely too much on a guest list at the Jazz Café. I was turned away from Jehst there at 9ish as they were full :D Actually that wasn't such a bad thing.

It's dull, man. It sounds like some bland barren wasteland. I don't know, it's just never floated my boat. I'm gonna go home and listen to it all the way through, just in case I've missed something. I'm not looking forward to it. It just seems to lack any sense of continuity. It's like a bland ass bunch of b-sides or something.

Are we talking about the same LP that has the bland barren wastelands that are: Buggin' Out, Everything Is Fair, Check The Rhyme and Scenario?

I semi-agree on the continuity aspect and continuity is certainly something that makes a good LP truly great but surely the confliction of Tribes' music was something to be applauded and expected across their whole catalogue.

Maybe i have my rose-tinteds on but i just remember it having an enigmatic fusion of words and music that led to some of the deepest most thought provoking feelings i've encountered listening to hiphop.

I have no doubts that it is me just missing the point. I'm sure it is great and stuff. It just doesn't blow me away at all. Scenario is actually a frustrating listen for me. It's the track I had in mind when I said the beats seemed rushed. Scenario promises much but it doesn't really deliver the stuff that I wanna hear. It grates after one listen, as I said about the whole album. Sorry, man. I'll go listen to it again just now.

Scenario is a favourite of mine, but it is obvious how much better the track could have been than it actualy is.

Watch, as I combine all the juice from the mind

Heel up, reel up, bring it back, come rewind

Powerful impact BOOM! from the cannon

Not braggin, try to read my mind just imagine

Vo-cab-u-lary's necessary

When diggin into my library

Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh!

Eating ayea toadstool like the one Peter Tosh-a

Uh, uh uhh, alone with the track man

Uh, pardon me, uhh, as I come back

As I did it yo I heard you beg your pardon

When I travel to the Sun I roll with the squadron

RRRRRROAW RRRRRRROAW like a dungeon dragon

Change your little drawers cause your pants are saggin

Try to step to this, I will, fits you in a turban

And had you smellin right, like some old stale urine

Checkady-choco, the chocolate chicken

The rear cock diesel, for chicks they were kickin

Yo, bustin out before the Busta bust a nut the rhyme

the rhythm is in sync (UHH!) the rhymes are on time (TIME!)

Rippin up this dance just like a radio

Observe the vibe and check out the scenario!!

FYI, Midnight Marauders is the best Tribe album. I thought it would be best if I cleared it up for all of you.

I am currently enjoying this little classic on vinyl:

Aint-a-Damn-Thing-Changed.jpg

If you've heard DWYCK by Gang Starr, then you'll know these guys. Some proper party rockers on here, and my favourite has to be 'Sometimes I Rhyme Slow' just for the sample they used.

I'm going to see PR & CL on the thursday. Currently looking for a place to stay the night in the area around islington (it'll be too late to take a train back to Exeter), so if anyone knows of a youth hostel or cheap hotel, do let me know. Cheers.

Fair enough, though. Jehst is rubbish. I went to his gig in Exeter (hoping he'd be better live) and I was blown away not by Jehst, but by Critically Ill and then the Jedi Mics. Both local, both great, and both not hyped at all, while this 'bohemian' dude gets all the cool reviews.

Moral of the story? You're a bad person for liking Jehst. Ask your mother.

W00t! Clive mentioned TWO albums I have - Bizarre Ride and Judgement Night... aces. I love Straight Outta Compton too... natch.

Now that I've built up a tiny bit of kudos, who is going to destroy me when I ask if anyone's coming along to Ozomatli?

(I love 'em, especially live).
