I saw this trending on Twitter last night and thought my brain was melting. People shouting about this "AMAZING NEWS" who I'm guessing must've forgotten that the Jamie Foxx Electro was absolute shite. If they're going to take a villain from that series I'd be happier (but only slightly) with Rhys Ifans' Lizard.

I think people are more excited that it could mean spider-verse stuff.

Whaaaaat? Spider-man 2 is one of the best superhero films, its shits all over ASM2

I have never understood how anyone could think that. They’re Star Wars Prequels levels of terrible, with awful scripts, terrible performances and nonsensical behaviour from all the characters. The plots are terrible and the special effects are garbage. The only theories I’ve ever been able to come up with for why people think that they’re acceptable films to watch for pleasure are:

Those people saw them as children, haven’t seen them since and don’t actually remember how bad they are.

Those people saw them immediately after watching the Ben Affleck daredevil movie and compared them directly to that.

Those people have never seen a film before.

I can’t come up with any other ideas that might explain adults watching movies that bad and finding them entertaining. I watched them a few months ago, thinking maybe I’d missed something when I was younger or not understood some subtle aspects of them. They’re so incredibly bad that I actually found they were much worse than I remembered. People seem to think the third one is worse than the others, but it’s literally exactly the same as the first two.

What are your views on ASM 1 & 2?

They’re shite. Andrew Garfield is too charismatic to play the character, they’re weirdly obsessed with Peter’s parents and they’re desperate to set up more movies. Emma stone is good though, and the bits where he’s in the suit are great, I love the web swinging, and they’re occasionally a bit funny. Still garbage.

Well I agree with you on that, they are dreadful.

They’re the best Spider-Man films, but they suffer from not actually being about him some of the time. The first one works fine, because even though iron man is in it he’s there as more of a mentor figure, and he’s part of a wider cast that is amazing, especially Keaton. The second one feels a bit more like an episode of the MCU show that happens to have Spider-Man in it, with the primary motivation of the antagonist not even having anything to do with Peter until he shoves himself into it.

Holland has a nice blend of awkward and charming that works well. I would like more scenes where Spider-Man is funny, and swings about. They wasted the dynamic between him and Flash by making Flash a big nerd, and having May find out his secret identity so early makes their relationship more boring, which is why I guess she’s not really in the second one.

Final Spider-Man film rankings:

Homecoming 8/10

Far From Home 6/10

ASM 4/10

ASM2 3/10

Raimi 1 2/10

Raimi 2 2/10

Raimi 3 1/10

I'm not a fan of the MCU films, despite thinking Holland is the best rendition of the character but that is definitely in part because I'm not a massive fan of Iron Man either (and yet also think RDJ was fantastic in the role). For me, they both just felt like extensions to an Iron Man adventure in tone, if not actual content.

I'll still watch the next one, mind, whereas I had no interest in the ASM series and am glad I never wasted money paying to see them at the cinema.

All based on nothing other than  Dr. Strange being announced for the film. Its all conjecture based on fuck all knowledge and sites needing clickbait. How about we wait and see.
