I was going to say earlier, didn't @labarte who was just the fastest guy ever, always use auto on pad too. Not sure wheel helps on Driveclub TBH.

In the third season we did before there were two really quick guys, SirBazofSurrey and Refago -- I couldn't get near those two. I use manual gears and pad.

Anyway, just went top but could have been faster if I hadn't thrown away three tenths on those tricky tight corners at the end.

I keep having a decent race and then blow it somewhere along the line. I was so close to @TehStu in one race then blew it on the last hairpin. I obviously need a lot more practice, but I can take some pride in knowing I can save you guys from the ignominy of being last

Couple more runs today and pretty frustrating. Getting regular 57.3-57.8 times and trying to work out the best way to beat @spatular

I beat him in the first sector fairly regularly by 0.070 to 0.370 seconds at any given time, but he carries more speed through the housing section of chicanes and manages the yellow marker right hander better than me so pulls ahead. I can get back a little at the next left hander (red markers) and gain a little into the first hairpin. But he carries more speed out. We are then even on the second hairpin going round, but he somehow gets on the power so much better than me on the exit and makes up a lot of time on the climb to the finish.

I am thinking I should carry less speed to the final left hander in the first sector, so I am accelerating around the right into the housing section, rather than lifting for the right and building speed back up.

It's fun chasing though, I have to say.

yeah that's what i've been trying to do too, that corner can be hard to see.

Haha all you guys are putting in insane times, good driving. I hope everyone is enjoying taking part, not sure what to do for the next challenge, if anyone has any suggestions feel free to share, I'm thinking we don't step it too much, maybe a car in the next level up.

I've only been getting 30 mins here and there since the weekend due to kids and work. I think Spatular has it, but I'd be happy with anywhere 2nd - 5th as I usually suck at these events.

Watching my best ghost vs Spatular in my last session was fascinating, as we are taking almost identical lines through the entire lap, I think the difference is purely down to him being a bit braver through one turn and a bit cleverer in another.

I can see where to gain time, but it requires me to improve in the section prior to make it stick.

Getting better now I am being braver in a few sections, so would love to get to under 1:00, but not sure its possible. Was getting the handling a lot more but those hairpins are killing me, I have no idea how to take them to get any speed coming out. Will have another bash tomorrow.

And even though I am crappy, and down at the bottom, its been good fun, especially figuring where I can improve and then doing that next time.

Everyone gets a point if they submit a time :)

Ah, I missed that the points start at 15 and go all the way down to 14th place. So chasing 14th to get 2 points over 1 point for anything below. Back markers need something to aim for :)

Ramp them up slowly, forget how many rounds we're doing but it's nice to be in the modest cars for a bit. Unless we want to do a throwback Friday at some later round and duke it out in 100 bhp Golfs.

Completely agree as it also gives us novices the chance to learn the handling model better and figuring out how to improve our times. There is still a ton of challenge for the really good guys to out do each other!

Had my first run earlier and up to fifth with more still possible, definitely planning to have a good shot at it later. I've not played DC for a long time but it's still so good, especially now the ghosts appear to be far more stable and of course there's the nostalgia from going up against some of the old crew from the original challenges on here, damn you spatular, my wife still remembers your name and laughed when she saw you were top! Great to see plenty of new faces mixing it up too.

Would be up for different track types though. A point to point or a sprint perhaps. Even a drift challenge eventually?

Definitely up for a drift challenge, that was always my speciality!

edit - oh man, just read the name Refago and shuddered a little, he came out of nowhere to dominate everyone when the previous challenges phased out!

I always used bumper cam in the RR games which became my default but I find it impossible in Driveclub. Am having to use the chase cam which I have always loathed in driving games. This probably explains my basement position, my racing pedigree is definitely skewed towards the arcade experience. Might try the in car view.
