The Expanse

Well, after season 4 I promised myself I'd catch up on the books. Season 5 trailer dropped and I'm still only halfway through book 3. In my defense, I did get through some nice non fiction maths books, and Neuromancer.

Anyway, always takes me a bit to get back into them, sometimes it's a bit chewy, for want of a better word. Like, it was really well streamlined in the series. But then when I get going, I actually really appreciate how much longer they are. For characters in the show, I can hear perfectly their voices in my head, and so it all feels like reading a directors cut where you just learn more back story.

Just a heads-up in case anyone wasn't aware, Leviathan Falls, the final book in the series, is out now.

I pre ordered it months ago and forgot, but when I was scrolling through my books on my kindle, I noticed it downloading. I'm going to get stuck in right now!

So, in my humble opinion, this is one of the strongest books in the series and sticks the landing completely. It ends in a completely logical way without being too obvious, doesn’t over-answer everything, and it’s a total thrill ride, as is Expanse tradition, from the halfway point on.

Spoiler

I desperately want them to adapt it to TV, but I suspect someone punching their way into a God-Emperor’s chest will be hard to film properly at TV budgets.

Ordered it for release, but didn’t get to it until this weekend: and mostly today.

great stuff.

no idea how you’d actually film the important bits of it, so it’s probably better that they probably won’t have to (and [book eight and nine spoilers]

The continually resurrecting immortal Amos

would almost certainly annoy huge numbers of people). the end of the second trilogy feels  like a good place for the tv show to stop.

Loving Leviathan Falls so far. About 40% through and laughed out loud as some classic Amos.

Spoiler

"Nothing useful," Amos said. "There's holes in the
spectrum where the idea of being in a place breaks down.
And there's a kind of light that can think. I mean, it's
interesting I guess, but it doesn't get the tools stowed."I

I just finished the last book. Wow! Aside from a few pacing issues here and there inn the series I felt this was a very strong story although it felt like they wrapped things up far too quickly and with a touch of deus ex about it.

Spoiler

The Whirlwinds death could have been more interesting, I'm still unclear who the real enemy from another dimension are or what Holden became.
