Sorry, father of three here that all love Pokemon.

Is this a proper Pokemon game like on the DS, or the usual naff Console spin offs?

I.e do you walk about, catch pokemon, fight Gym Leaders, go against a secret organisation, awake a super Pokemon from slumber, tame it and save the world?

You know the usual?

My kids has asked for this for xmas and I want to be sure its a proper game.

It's a good un'

Yup, mine is. Wasn't sure if it was because of those 5 Pikachu candies I got, but I'm thinking it's everyone.

What I like in this, over PoGo, is that I only need someone with decent stats and the rest can be made up with candies. Also noticed that Pokemon you're given from NPCs are generally way better.

I found Snorlax asleep and had a proper squee moment unbefitting a man in his 40s. I  Snorlax.

32 year old me is getting a bigger nostalgia rush from this than I anticipated, but it's infuriating that they made Gary a nice guy.

Can kids today not deal with Gary being a dick?

Arguably though, that's character development for him. Even back in Gold/Silver back in 1999/2000. Gary 'being a nice guy now' is a payoff of what you see happen plot-wise between the first two generations of games.

Unless you mean fake Gary. Whom isn't Gary.

Bummer, my joycons still won't sync after playing with the poke ball controller, even if the ball is used to launch the game. I'm not 100% sure, but it might be when we've been playing co-op using two of them. Incredibly, last night the connected joycons wouldn't work after I undocked the Switch to put it in standby. I had to disconnect and reconnect one and then it woke up. Surely physically attached joycons shouldn't suffer sync issues, which makes me think it's something about the poke balls.

I don't understand how no one else is posting about this, unless using two is a bit of an edge case.

There is something strange going on with the controllers and the pokeball, for sure. We find things only tend to work when we physically disconnect at least one joycon from the Switch (i.e. leaving both connected, then using a joycon from another set, seems to cause all sorts of problems). For some reason the only consistent success we've had has been with player 1 on the ball, player 2 using the right joycon and the left joycon still connected to the Switch.

I wonder if that's physical copies or digital too.

From their sales chart article:

Of course, it's worth noting that these figures only take into account physical sales, so digital sales will likely take that number up a few notches, too.

My resolve has weakened and I couldn't wait until Christmas (wanted to play it on Christmas Day like my original copy of Blue). Picked it up after work the other day and started it this morning.

It's a big nostalgia buzz, and the opening left me with a smile on my face. Visually it's not doing anything astounding, but it's really aesthetically pleasing and a perfect update to the old GBC style.

I don't mind the new catching mechanics as you're clearly supposed to go for quantity in order to get EXP, a shiny or a monster with good stats.

In fact, I wouldn't mind if this replaced the "third pillar" of Pokémon games. For the past decade or so we've had it cycle through core games, a remake and then a sequel/updated core game, making jt a Pokémon game every year.

As we are leaving the 3DS behind, and along with it the ability to play the remakes of Gold/Silver and Ruby/Sapphire, I really wouldn't mind if Let's Go started that remake cycle from scratch. In a couple of years I'd definitely be up for Let's Go Pichu/Togepi/Snubbull or whatever.

Also, what's the endgame like in this? I presume there's nothing like the recent remakes were other gen monsters were available after beating the Elite Four. I guess I can try and get that metal legendary on Go and transfer it over.

Guys help me out, many of you know I'm a huge Pokemon fan, within the last few years I collected and bred all 802 Pokemon over multiple games and have them all in my Pokemon Bank with me as OT. I've got hundreds of level 100 Pokemon that I've trained up over the years etc. I'm literally a massive bloody fan.

Since this games announcement Ive just not liked the look of it, it looked like a cut down version of a Pokemon game, I didn't like the look of how you catch Pokemon and felt this just looks like an imitation spin off of a Pokemon game, I was never a fan of Pokemon Go and this reminds me more of that than one of the main series games.

However, I can't let this go idley by without asking questions, I might be massively missing out, so can you folks playing please answer me a few questions...

Is this like a cut down Pokemon game or is it a fully fledged entry in the series?

Can you trade Pokemon with others or is it pretty much a single player experience?

How does it play in Handheld mode? The only catching of Mon I've seen is with a random Pokeball I have no intention of buying.

Will I eventually be able to trade the Pokemon caught in this to future games in the series?

And basically is there a lot of game there? I've put 100s of hours into every Pokemon Game, questing, trading, level grinding. Will I get that from this?

Thanks for your help guys.

The game is Pokemon Yellow except instead of random encounters in long grass that play out like fights, you can see which pokes are there, avoiding them if you like and catching them using a fairly simple throwing mechanic (just a button and some motion aiming in handheld).

I've no idea how you people are levelling up. I'm up to the tower and my very best pokemon are about at the level of what I'm facing but everything else is below and I'm out of ways to gain XP as far as I can tell.

Not being funny but are you catching stuff? I haven't been deliberately grinding but I've been catching bits and bobs as I go along and I'm usually a few levels higher than the trainers I meet. And you can bang them in the daycare centre north of Vermillion if you need to boost something in particular.

Just catch more Pokémon.
