This is a Nintendo first party game, so it'll get significantly cheap around the time we experience the heat death of the universe.

Anyway, I've experienced a weird bug. You know the two trainers who give you Bulbasaur or Charmander if you've captured something like 30/50 monsters? Well I've been below that both times I've ran in to them, but they've proudly proclaimed I've caught 111 and 115 Pokémon respectively when I talked to them.

Anyone else experienced that?

I was wondering if linking it to Go has done it, though I've caught 143 Kanto Pokémon (maybe it's what I currently have in my Go Pokebox, though I tried to keep a Living Pokédex as much as possible there...). Weirdly none of that is conveyed in Let's Go's Pokédex though, which still says I have about 26 caught.

Those guys are just looking for the total number of Pokémon you've caught, rather than how many different species.

Found another bug. If you have two Pokémon and defeat the opponent's one after the first move, the second Pokemon still wastes theirs, missing because there's nothing to attack

I was kinda expecting that one to have been patched already, it's pretty obvious and happens every time. I've taken to making sure I select a poorer move for my second pokemon, if it's mostly obvious my first pokemon's attack will finish the job.

Some want total pokemon caught, others want a specific number of species caught. IIRC, the one giving away Charmander wants 30 individual species. You're probably shy of that when you first encounter the NPC, although likely over in cumulative catches.

That happens in loads of JRPGs. I don’t think it’s a bug.

Nope, 3rd party like virtually all Pokémon games.

I know it doesn't necassarily make it first party but doesn't Nintendo have a 10% stake in it or something like that? I remember reading it a while back. I think they help with the funding for games and that sort of thing don't they?

Technically isn't it 2nd party?

Developed by a non-Nintendo company (Game Freak), Published by a (Partly-owned) Nintendo subsidiary (The Pokemon Company), distributed by Ninty themselves.

Technically there's no actual definition of second party. But you could argue it is, yes. Either way, not first party!

Thought exercise: is Zelda: Minish Cap a first party title?

Pretty sure that's not a bug.

I don't play JRPGs and didn't realize this was a standard feature. Let's just call it a weird mechanic, then.

Only bug I’ve found (aside from Caterpie - oho!) is when your opponent or partner uses a heal item and it says “You used a potion” or whatever.

Did you recommend I update pad firmware? Anyway, whomever did, I did. One of the lefts and one of the rights still needed doing. Alas, the issue of the joycon not syncing when you've used two poke ball controllers is still present. We don't play it that way all the time, so I guess it's only a problem some of the time. I may need to move the dock, though. It's safely behind the TV, where it's not going to get knocked, but now we're pulling it out more often to be able to quit out of Let's Go.

My Poké Ball gave me a shout out earlier and I immediately responded. Instead of the usual rainbow LED, it just flashed white. Missed timing, faulty ball or have I killed my Pokémon?

I have Squirtle in my pocket at work, and I'm kinda on edge waiting to cough to mask the sound it's going to make. What do I actually do when it calls out? Swirl the stick? Click the button? And can I broadly anticipate when it'll call out? I can glance at my Fitbit's step tally and get a sense of when I need to cough :P

Alright ...

Who is going to be my trade buddy? I need to send out Graveller, Haunter, Kadabra, and Machoke, to then get them back. Ideally, someone with Eevee so we can also trade version exclusives, since the randoms I've triple-Pikachu linked with are all either refusing  or just unable to send over Vulpix or Belsprout!

I'll admit I had to look it up but I'd call that 2nd party too.

55 Magikarp chained so far this evening. Not a shiny in sight yet and passed up Lapras, Gyarados, Tentacool, Tentacruel, Staryu and Starmie.

I chained 167 Vulpix (no shiny) and then the next one fucked off before I could even do anything. Good job I was not playing portable or the Switch could have been bouncing off of the wall.

There's an option to play it over a LAN, or via the internet. I assumed that was different to A Wild Support Trainer Appears with a second controller, but I don't have a second switch or any friends (in my timezone) to test the actual multiplayer. We could probably do with a second switch, I can't get the kids off this game. My teen's "I'm just going to play for 15mins" turned into 3 hours, last night.

Someone asked about leveling up - I walked my level 13 Squirtle on Monday, keeping it in my pocket for most of the day. I assume it's 1 xp per step, and got 7k XP. That was good for getting him straight to level 23. Tonight I'll have 2 days worth of walking to check in with, although I assume I walk roughly the same amount each day. So, that seems really useful early on, but that's going to be peanuts later. I was looking at a "how to get to level 100" article, I think on VG247, as you'll pretty much need that for the master trainer battles, and they reckoned the best way is to chain catch combos on pokemon that need ultraballs to catch. There's a screenshot of him getting 21k xp per catch deep into the combo, and it helps to make sure you get all the multipliers, like excellent, technique (motion catch), heavy pokemon, etc.

So, an early perk, but the poke ball walking method clearly doesn't really help towards end-game.

Thanks, can anyone else chime in though with experience?. Auntie is looking to buy one but she wants to know can you she play the game alongside her daughter and its nothing something gimmicky like Mario Odyssey where 1 player is Mario and the other is Cap.

I think Lan/internet play is just battles with other trainers and trading.

The only playing together I'm aware of is the couch co-op where the second player drops in and can run around for little purpose until you're in the catch screen (they can also throw balls to add xp and catch chance) and in battles (you get two Pokémon out against the opposition's one).
