Except they set up a beureau in Rome and not Greece and the game sets up the Templars largely being based in Rome.

Given the nature of interlinking of Roman and Greeco culture at that time it’s no great stretch to find the Assassins in Athens methinks

October 5th, then.

Looks good to me but basically an Origins reskin. I haven’t even started Curse of the Pharaohs yet.

Spider-Man is 7th Sep. Tomb Raider 14th. Red Dead is 26th October.

Somethings gotta give and it’ll probably be this. Will probably pick it up in the December gap before the February onslaught.

It indeed looks like nothing more than an Origins expansion with more emphasis on boating around. I don't know if I have it in me to put so much time into more of the same so soon after Origins, as much as I liked that game. Ubi immediately went full Ubi again with this series, didn't they?

The various previews dont don’t make it read as an Origins expansion, but it’s an odd release date so close to RDR2.

I meant it looks like one. Alex Navarro played the demo and also said it's literally more of the same.

Did you really expect anything else? Origins was a turn for the better but it was a very superficial game, just a template so they can easily built upon for fast, future releases.

Don't think Origins was superficial in the slightest. Had probably my favourite protagonist of the series and it looked absolutely stunning. But it was a long game and I don't think I'm ready for more of the same less than a year later.

For me it was superficial because the story, characters and writing were very bad, the quest design and side quests were completely uninspiring, combat was nothing special and AI was truly horrible. It was the art, the graphics and the world building that kept me going, although they weren't enough in the end to drive away the bonkers main story and mediocre characterization.

But it was an improvement for the series which only needed one success story, it seems, to go back to the awful release cycle that almost destroyed it in the first place. Oh, well, it's Ubi after all...

Sorry, right you are. I knew that but clearly wasn’t thinking straight at half three!

@Talk Show Host I’m interested to see how this one is critically received and what changes they make. The conversation thing has the potential to really change things up and they made a point of having Socrates say your actions have consequences.

If Greece is as detailed as Egypt I’ll still pick it up when I’ve got time and make my way through it at my own pace. The world they created in Origins was superb.

Hopefully they've changed up the mission structure as well.

I think the thing to remember is this isn’t the same team that put out Origins, so it should have its own spin on that formula, for better or for worse. And that Origins team will be back in a year or two to do the things they couldn’t with Origins.

Good points. I am more harsh to Origins than I should be, especially because it was a turn to the right direction and I expected more. Hopefully this will built on that, but Ubisoft is not well known for its writing skills, quite the opposite, so I am very skeptical about this conversation thing and if it will actually end up being meaningful enough. No matter how many choices you have, you got to have a good story and characters first in order to invest in those choices.

I agree about Origin's world building, it's one of gaming's recent triumphs on any level. I even went back for the tour DLC. Truly astonishing stuff. I will buy this one  because I am from Greece, so it will be interesting for me to see how they will approach the setting.

I was hoping for a sequel to Origins, I enjoyed playing as Bayek.

Ubisoft need to really try and stick with a character for a while like the Ezio trilogy of games instead of reinventing the wheel every year.

They keep trying but it's not as easy to create such an amazing character.

I can't keep up!!

I'm about 10% of the way through Unity, I picked up Syndicate when it was free on XBL a few months back so I'm not even close to starting Origins!!

What are Unity, Syndicate and Origins like, out of interest?  I loved AC 2 and Brotherhood and Black Flag was fun.  Wasn't as keen on AC 3 though.

I didn’t like what they did to either Bayek or Aya by the end of the game. They became totally self serious and devoid of any of the personality that they’d built over the course of the game.

Basically they need to make an Assassins Creed game without the ridiculous Assassin’s and Templars. Bayek is so much more interesting as a Medjay.

That sounds exactly like what I would have expected.

I wonder if it will have those 'tours' that Origins has? I've yet to get around to buying that one, but that addition always struck me as a good thing really - every Creed game I've played has been kind of fun for a fair few hours and I suddenly get thoroughly sick of the bastards. The tour aspect is something that I'd probably enjoy a fair bit (ancient history being one of my specialist subjects...and by specialist I mean I like it lots and lots).
