the Grunts have got their tragi-comedy personas back.

I’m getting soft(er) in my advancing years (fnarr) because I actually find killing the grunts pretty upsetting. There’s one particular Grunt death scream that is actually a bit too much.

I've only had time to pop on for a few goes here and there throughout the day and I've really loved what I've played but literally every time I've loaded it up I've lost progress because Microsoft's flagship Quick Resume feature doesn't work if a game has to connect to the internet. I have to hard quit out of the game and whenever I do when I load back in it's forgotten the last thing I've done. Now this doesn't matter if you're playing 5 hour sessions and losing a few minutes here and there but I've had to do the same bit 3 times today because Quick Resume simply doesn't work and in some cases actively crashes the game.

Between this and Forza it seems mad that with third party games it's been flawless for me on the series S but for their two big Christmas first party games it's caused pretty big problems.

Wow some incorrect opinions here. Mods!

Your ban request is being given due consideration. There is a limit to what can be done but as mods we have a duty, nay, an obligation to prevent such wrongheaded opinions from spreading amongst the wider Halo populace.

Seriously though, the grapplehook is the best addition made to the game since CE. It makes traversal and battles an absolute joy, the voltaic upgrade to shock enemies is a good way of stunning Brutes and Elites for a quick finish and the melee upgrade is hilarious.

I love a good late title card. Here it wasn't well done. It looked naff. Should have appeared at the reveal of the open world.

This seems like a missed opportunity to me, but eh, it doesn't stop the game from being brilliant.

My only complaints so far have been the ammo crates making it too easy to hang on to favoured weapons, but more of an issue is all of the exploding crates lying around for you to throw at unsuspecting enemies, making some of the base/FOB encounters almost ridiculously easy, even on Heroic. Boss fights I can take or leave, but to be honest I had more trouble dealing with a bog-standard cloaked Elite in one of the repair sheds. A repulsor would have worked wonders, but that hasn't shown up in the game yet (wonder what the upgrades for that look like).

The compulsion to protect marines through battles is still as strong as it ever was and on Heroic at least they seem to give a good account of themselves (versus on Legendary in previous games where it's not even worth trying). That said, I gave up a rocket launcher to a marine after clearing out the area surrounding the prison and then was gutted when she didn't follow me in. Of the six odd marines that I'd left out there, only two remained to greet me on my return and neither of them was the person I'd given my rocket launcher to. Thief! :hmm:

I managed to get killed by a Grunt with a Needler this evening, and he was jumping up and down over my corpse shouting ‘I hope the human afterlife sucks’.🤣

I laughed so hard I nearly choked on my tea (Which is my excuse how he managed to get me in the first place, and I’m sticking to it).

Great game I’m loving it.😍

Lolz how amazing would it be if there’s a teabagging bit too haha

My one issue is that it's definitely a bit too Ubisoft as opposed to From. I really dislike maps which show you too much, and on screen indicators. There's no incentive to explore when you're told exactly where to go. Imagine stumbling across a powerful enemy who rewards you with a unique weapon instead of being told where he is.

I agree. I’d prefer it to be like BoTW, where you just head off in a direction to see what you can find. Can you turn the markers off? I’ve only just got to the surface, so I’ll do that if possible.

You get the markers on your map by hacking into the Covenant battle net every time you take over a FOB. So just don’t take any over and you won’t get any.

The issue with this is that you won't be able to fast travel, and if you want to take advantage of the unlockable weapons/vehicles etc you're going to have to travel from the same FOB each time. It's probably doable but you're likely denying yourself a lot of fun shit.

I’ve hardly looked at the map, and I’m exploring everywhere.

Big yikes at that performance hit when you reach the outdoors on PC. Thinking I might have been better off dusting off the Series S.

Indeed (on PC). Also, I think the outdoor levels are a bit disappointing and generic. Indoors it's fantastic.

Had a weird bug last night where I was unable to fire any weapon or throw a grenade other than the plasma pistol. Had to restart, but the checkpoints are pretty generous so not a big deal.

Also very happy I went with Heroic as it's pretty easy so far other than the odd skirmish where I'm up against a few elites/brutes and have an awkward weapon combo.

Story wise, I have no idea what's going on.

I am a bit concerned with the map markers (you know how I feel about that stuff) and abundance of gear so perhaps this is an option. I don't tend to fast travel in open world games anyway, especially not relatively small ones like these where the methods of transport are fun in themselves. So perhaps not doing that hack thing at the FOB is the answer? Or does that mean the FOB is not 'done'?

The tone of your posts (not just here, but in general) is often confrontational and/or overly defensive. You come across as this guy almost 100% of the time:

Dont worry, this sometimes applies to me too. ;)

That's a bit of an unfriendly troll, and not really helpful but... thanks?

Well stop telling me what I’m allowed to talk about then. It comes across as unnecessarily aggressive.

The massive irony is, I was addressing your comment where you said I should stop talking about the cutscene frame-rate issue and just concentrate on the gameplay. That was why I said don't respond to it then, and just talk about the gameplay. I'm not being aggressive towards you.
