Devil May Cry 5

Bloody Palace mode has been added with three new achievements/trophies for clearing it with each of the (current - :eyebrows:) main characters. :omg::ph34r::sealclap::hug:

I've somehow scraped my way to stage 50 with Nero and am taking a breather, but I'm not doing great with the boss fights and the next one coming up is likely to kick my arse good and proper.

Whilst I'm here, how the hell do you deal with:

a) The teleporting guy with the sword arms?

b) The fast invisible ninja fucker?

c) The queen empusa

The first guy I can kind of deal with even though I have to chase after him but the ninja guy kills me (never managed to stagger him long enough to Devil Buster him) and the queen seems to be a bullet/sword sponge. I've staggered the queen empusa  a few times but I'm not exactly sure how

Capcom had a live stream going on YouTube of you want to spoil all the stages for yourself, but after seeing the player doing extremely long air combos with Nero and actually using Exceed properly versus randomly hitting the trigger and hoping for the best, I'm inspired to up my game.

I might actually have a chance of clearing Bloody Palace with Nero reasonably quickly, considering with DMC4 I think I only to stage 10 or so on my first attempt. Dante and V are going to be a challenge though.

Sword arms guy - I have leaving him to last when there are groups of enemies, dodging what I can of his attacks as the are quite well telegraphed. When he is on his own I have waiting until he does one of the long range charge strikes as it seems to have the biggest window to attack and then just letting loose. All my recent plat against them has been with Dante on SoS so tactics might change somewhat as I get Nero at them more.

Ninja fucker - Probably the non Boss enemy I am most struggling with right now. Everything apart from its attack that comes after the eye flash still feels very unpredictable so after the 2 or 3 attacks that follow the eye flash I have been using that. Does seem to have a very short stagger window so it usually takes a few cycle of getting hits in but it is a very tricky enemy!

Queen Empusa - Not sure, is that the flying thing that glows red? Not great with their names yet so the descriptions, ie 'Invisible ninja fucker' means a lot more :)

Amazing news on BP mode. Straight in there tonight after I finish off another couple of SoS missions. Up to 15 now.

Astonishing how this becomes a totally different game on SoS compared to Human.

It’s incredible isn’t it?! Like all the tricks and skills picked up on Human were simply preparing you for it. I always enjoy seeing a cutscene introduce a ‘new’ enemy then I think “I have been skelping you for the last 5 missions ya dick!”.

Is bloody palace a good practice mode too (albeit challenging I guess?). It’d be great to have more opportunity to try shit out.

Ive not used the Void at all for practice, instead replaying some missions where I can work on specific enemies, but I imagine BP will be good for it too

KC is absolutely handing me my ass on SoS mode :(

HELP!!

Can get him down to about 20% but that is taking everything I have to get there. Feels like it wants me to use RG or even Trickster a lot more but just not got the patterns down enough yet. Also, what a beautiful spectacle that battle is aswell!

They have added a Warm Up mode when you can replay any wave that you've reached so far, which is really cool.

Although it seems that the Suspend/Continue mechanic uses up the game's single save slot so if you completed a mission then it's possible that it would nuke your Bloody Palace progress but I'm too scared to test it.

It definitely does it the other way round in that starting a BP run will erase whatever checkpoint you have stored in Story mode. Not sure if does it both ways but would assume so, which seems pretty stupid.

Got up to Mission 19 with Dante and then the first real boss encounter wiped me out. Its crazy how the dynamics of some boss fights are specifically designed for Nero, making them a very different encounter for Dante. Nero's grab and pull with the arm does make almost every encounter easier in that you can quickly and safely close range so while Dante has a LOT more tools he is also the tricker to really get the most out of, especially in BP.

Just got past Mission 19 in the campaign (DH). Took me about 5 gold orbs.

You'll be happy to hear that mission 20 is a lot easier.

On Devil Hunter, I had to use three gold orbs for mission 19, and this was after completing it on Human with most of Dante's moves unlocked. It's pretty brutal but I hope to improve when I get to Dante's levels on SoS.

Resumed BP on mission 51 and as anticipated, I got battered by the mission 60 boss who wasn't the one I was expecting.

Spoiler

Malthus

I then had a few practice attempts in Warm Up mode and managed to win once, but I think I need to be more consistent (and also have a better set of Devil Breakers) before I'll be ready to go back and try again from scratch.

Warm Up mode does mean that I can go back and practice any wave completed so far, and I think I'll be focusing on those where I ended up with a negative time because those are clearly the ones I was having trouble with first time around.

Finished this today. OK ending, I suppose. The story stuff is rarely so bad it's good, though. Mainly just bad.

Had a go on BP and got done in by Goliath when I tried to get a bit too fancy.

Restarted on SoS and I'm enjoying it a lot more. Clearly I did actually learn a thing or two the first time around as it feels easier than my DH playthrough. Suppose having the DT helps.

Really wish I'd bought Max Act and Table Hopper 2 and 3 the first time around, as well.

Why would I want to cake walk it, though?

Also, is the campaign the best way to earn coins? Presumably throw Dante's hat on anything that moves and then mash them to a pulp?

For the achievement/trophy? Being old school they don't stack, plus there's another one for S ranking every mission on every difficulty bar the easiest (which isn't actually Human, it's one called Heaven or Hell where all enemies die with one hit and is only unlocked after beating the game on Dante Must Die difficulty [the one after SoS])

I’ve just realised something... is this the first DMC game that doesn’t let you purchase health and DT orbs to use mid mission? I’ve not purchased any power up of that sort in a game since the original DMC3 after a couple runs but ive only just noticed that they don’t appear to even be an option anymore, instead having a more lenient yellow orb policy. I like that :)

Isn’t that due to the fact that when you play with Dante and V, the button IS devil trigger?

I’ve done that loads too. Actually when I think about it it’s bad that it’s made that way. They should have kept the DT button consistent.

I hadn’t done that once until I read that post and did it twice this morning.

I think Nero might be my favourite character, but only because I’m getting to grips with him. Not looking forward to the final boss on SoS but otherwise I’m loving it.

Totally see see why I should have started on Human. Having the unlocks for Demon Hunter would have made it so much easier.

Yeah, that was kinda my point. It’s not an issue until Nero goes v2.0 but after that the mapping of Devil Breaker detonation to L1 is shown up as being a bit of an issue.

You can remap the buttons for individual characters in the menus, I did it as soon as I reached NG+

Cheers man. Not done it yet but will get it switched. Just finished SoS mode so much practice needed before I get into DMD.

Ate four of my gold orbs on DH difficulty. Clearly a week off playing Yakuza 0 has weakened my DMC mojo

Toughest boss in SoS mode for me. His ice attacks and how well he controls the area in that form makes him very troublesome.

So, yeah, this is some serious GOTY material. I'm well into SoS and everything just WORKS and controls well and is fun to play but hard to master.

And that's indeed surprising given the variety of moves and weapons.

It really fucking is isn’t it?! I’m a couple missions into DMD mode and it’s everything I hoped it would be. A moments lapse in focus and it’s game over man, it’s game over!!

Using the Devil Buster on DMD Goliath was hilarious. I would have been aswell throwing a brick at him for all the health it took off  fully charged Blue Rose though, now THAT is a real game changer.
