Trials Rising

There's a few really shit things about this game:

- The World Map: I much prefer the progression system in previous games.  This one is ultra-grindy.

- The soundtrack: holy fuck is it god awful.

- The loading: I mean seriously?!?!  The levels look very nice and all, but they really need to sort out their engine if it takes over 30-40 seconds to load a 45 second track.

- The lack of polish: a lot of stuttering all over the place and textures popping in, even when you restart a level.  Sort it out!

And still....this is definitely the best Trials game to date despite all those complaints.  Not only are the bike physics the best they've ever been, but the levels themselves are absolutely phenomenal.  In addition to their talented staff, Redlynx has reached out to the community and hired a bunch of the best custom track level creators and set them free.  And you can tell!  The levels are plentiful and varied, with each one feeling unique in its own right.  It's still early days, but I really can't wait for the out of the box user created tracks to start showing up after people have finished the main game.

At the moment, I'm just trying to unlock all the courses without spending too much time on perfecting my runs.  I'm coming for you soon @Dark Soldier

Also, I didn't know you had to buy the donkey and helium bikes.  I spent my hard earned credits on a victory animation and loading pose instead :(  Back to the grind...

My son discovered that this had loot crates in it, so spent an hour last night opening the 50 or so that I'd accumulated and customising my rider and bikes for me.  He didn't ride a single track.

So I guess I can see who they're trying to appeal to with all this crap, but it still annoys me that I have to skip through it all every time I finish a track.  And in all that skipping I've managed to choose the wrong bike for a track a few times, which takes about 2 minutes to sort out once you've waited for it to load, quit out, skipped all the nonsense, chosen the right bike, waited for it to load again. Fucking hell.

Before going into a track, check out the global leaderboards for it (press Triangle) and see what bike everyone's using and then use the same one.

Yeah, I meant I chose the wrong bike by mistake, because I was spamming X to get through all the filler stuff. Once you’ve done that it’s a 2 minute wait to get back and pick the right one.

That's perfectly sensible advice, only slight caveat I'd add: the choice is generally either the slightly more powerful Rhino or the more agile Mantis. Some of the best times are achieved with the Rhino but it requires quite a lot of skill to wrangle that lumbering beast round the course and maybe only gains you half a second. Unless you're going for a very fast time I'd be inclined to stick with the bike that's highlighted as 'recommended' in the menus. If you don't see a recommended bike then you haven't unlocked it yet.

It probably wouldn't be a Trials game without these three, they've always been well janky and with a fairly rank aesthetic. You'd think they'd be better from a technical point of view by now.

I like that the music in the series is awful though, it means I don't feel guilty about turning it off and playing some good stuff instead.

I did, only just accepted it!

Can you get digital codes from the store or just the disc?

Just the disc on console, either on PC iirr.

If it's digital for console that your after then CD keys are selling both editions (Xbox only i think) at £17.79 and £26.99 (worth trying the -5% fb thingy on top of that too) :).

Cheers, I’m PS4 (still tempted to double dip with switch) so will pony up - not sure how I forgot this was out :o I will be setting terrible times/scores shortly!

Can i get a couple of adds? PSN: tonynovember

Finalyl unlocked the hard tracks - took 10 hours and I'm a decent enough player. The grind to get there is crazy, surely most people that have bought this are experienced Trials players, we dont need all the grind to get to the tracks most people want to play.

The front end and UI in this is terrible; I'm generally pretty indifferent to this sort of thing, but it's genuinely putting me off playing. It's not so much the loot crates as the complete opacity in terms of how to progress and open up new levels, or what each type of point/currency/thing I'm earning means. I also really hate having a world map with levels randomly scattered all over it, rather than just having them in a neat list.

It all feels like something that was trendy and on-point about ten years ago.

So what's the consensus on the Switch version now its been out a week or so?

Worth getting?

I'm really enjoying it - it's rough around the edges has slowdown in places, but it's very playable. I've been playing it exclusively in handheld mode and finding it fine.

I'm really enjoying it. My main issues with it is that I feel they don't prioritise getting you into the game. I want minimum time in menus.

Most of all, I don't want to have to dismiss a stupid loot box every time I finish a level, and I don't want to wait for a stupid bar to fill up to find out if I got a gold or not. Just give me a screen with my friends leaderboard and what medal I got, and let me restart with one button press and no loading.

Agree with everything said so far, except it being the best Trials. That's Evolution for me. I grew to accept the awful music was a part of the series charm but i only lasted 10 minutes on this one but muting it. It's a shame they can't find good 70/80/90s punk tracks like Tony Hawks did, it'd suit the game. That was one of the most noticeable things about the user created tracks on Evolution, most of the them chose an ambient track to play in the background, it leant a different vibe to playing the game that elevated it in a way the developers never knew how.

Not impressed by the tracks on Rising at all, they're boring and bland so far. Think I'll just look for some user created tracks every few days and return to the main game whenever.

One annoyance about user created tracks is only being allowed to give them a thumbs up or down, as opposed to a rating out of 5 or 10.

I think Fortnite rage has killed my triggers, that’s my explanation for my poor throttle management anyway....

If you want to check them if they registering 100% then load this site on your PC, plug the controller in press the triggers and see what it registers for them. Found it the other day when I was looking around to try find something check if my controllers rumble was working proper.
