It'll never happen but I'd love Otogi 1 & 2 to be added.

I knew who'd possed that before looking.

For me the PGR series, Burnout pre-Paradise and NFS:HP, still the best collection of racing games ever made.

Have they shut down that recommendations page where you could vote for titles?

I'm still blown away I can boot up the proper versions of Ninja Gaiden 1 & 2 (none of that Sigma bullshit) in 4k at 60fps right now, over 12 years later. The combat hasn't aged a day in either of them.

Actually going back to the 360 catalogue has been a real eye-opener in terms of how much games have flatlined mechanically this gen.

Halo 3 was far more ambitious than I'd previously given it credit for. Dead Rising still feels more impressive than any of its sequels. Ninja Gaiden 2 pushes more proper enemies (ie not braindead fodder) than any other action game I can think of, while spraying the screen with every single alpha effect you could possibly comprehend, and hilariously commits to keeping every single limb, blood splat and corpse persistent for the rest of the level (aside from the massive ones).

It was mentioned a few times that the cost of re-licensing on top of the actual engineering makes it unlikely that we'll see many more new BC titles. Which could very well be, but it's not just about tangible profit, outright purchases of digital BC titles. It's also a PR thing, a hearts and minds thing - whenever Microsoft adds new BC titles, especially if there are a few fan favourites among them, it's easy marketing. Doubly so for Enhanced titles, especially among the hobbyists as "free remasters". And, most importantly, it's an efficient way of expanding and advertising their Game Pass library, and enticing lapsed 360 gamers back.

All good points, but MS can't magically resolve licensing issues, ownership disputes, and certainly aren't going to pay through the nose to relicense cars and music for games like PGR, JSRF, Blur etc. when current-get Forza games gets delisted because the car licensing expires after a few years.

Oh I agree, read my entire post as if I said "major licensing issues notwithstanding". With often requested cult favourites like Otogi however, I think it's theoretically less likely for there to be big music or product licensing issues compared to something like Forza and JSRF - but you never know. Maybe there's an angry classical shamisen player out there with outrageous royalty demands

However even with licensing issues there are precedents for Microsoft going the extra mile - Driver San Francisco for example. Even though those issues prevent them from actually selling the game, it has been made BC and you're free to stick your original disc in your Bone :)

And a new AAA game apparently, but it's too early perhaps.

And yes, Playground's Fable is the industry's worst-kept secret by now.

The problem is, quite a lot of the time it's not always obvious who you can even ask.

Will Demon Souls be coming to Series X?

I think so, but Dark Souls onwards, except for Bloodborne, came to Xbox. I was just wondering what the deal is with this. Be good if it came to Series X, as I reckon that’ll be my first next gen console purchase.

Imagine if Demon Souls is PS5 exclusive and Xbox secure Elden Ring.

Well, one is far more likely than the other. MS could have Elden Ring marketing though.

Hence flatscreen dominance, despite being inferior display tech. I wouldn't like to go back to the heat, power draw, depth, weight and wonky alignment of CRTs, but that hasn't stopped me missing their motion for games over the past 15-odd years.

FED failed where OLED didn't because it would've resulted in thicker TVs. It would've been expensive to develop with yield problems, but OLED wasn't exactly cheap. The best of both worlds is available if there were a greater willingness to compromise on aesthetics. It'd be easier to develop Performance and Quality modes in tandem then, since without a native screen res you could just drop it a notch for the former.

LCD won because much like other inferior technologies which have won wars, it's good enough for the mass market and cheaper than the technologically better rivals.

Nano-tubes were the Holy Grail, but patent bullshit helped kill that avenue. All the best bits of CRTs but actually flat.

A technology that you can't make commercially viable isn't a superior technology, at the end of the day. Any non-semiconductor tech was going to be at an immediate disadvantage, and SED and FED were going to be extremely hard to literally make just because of the principles of the technology. That there were so few viable approaches that only one company had a path to commercialisation, and had to try to licence that out to the few other interested parties, and even managed to fuck that up because an essential part of their tech was licensed in in the first place, is a testament to the futility of it.

OLED was the holy grail: a technology that exploited LCD manufacturing processes and fit in to the same enormous watch-to-TV size range, but gave a markedly superior result. And microLED's going to do the same sort of piggy-backing job. Never bet against Moore's Law.

Wasn’t it published by Sony originally?

It was.  Demon Souls and Bloudbourne I would be VERY surprised to see coming to Xbox.   I'd love it (due to the fucked up state my Bloodbourne game save is in depending on which version of Bloodbourne I play)
