Assassin's Creed aside, that mostly felt like a reel of games that wouldn't have garnered much attention otherwise.

my thoughts

-

a) some good ideas for games there

b) expected faces to look better - saw nothing that I haven’t seen on current gen

c) gameplay. Where was it? That’s what has frustrated me. Basically a lie.

it's a bit worrying if the top man at Ubisoft Montreal doesn't know what gameplay is

If you've played any Assassins Creed game over the last ten years you'd immediately know the answer to that.

it was all so utterly generic, just more of the same with shinier explosions and particle effects, utterly tedious looking.

Better than that Cerny PS5 debacle, but the bar was low and they only just stumbled over. Maybe because it was so dark. Who knew good lights were going to be first against the wall come the apocalypse.

No gameplay. No next gen features demoed. Nothing really here except a little logo to tell you these are next gen games.

Just a trailer dump for a lot of games which you can't get genuinely interested in because you can't see what they look like to play.

Boo.

Yes, definitely, but the first showcase for Xbox series x was not the place to do that.

So as i expected (or going by the internet and this place, not expected) it was a bunch of current gen games.

Only a couple interested me. That first game made by one guy, holy fuck it looked good. And that horror game.

Roll on the big showing in July.

Xbox May 20/20 - not an ounce of actual gameplay was seen.

I’ve barely touched Xbox or PlayStation since Switch came out and this is why.

The graphics are nice to look at but this slavery to realism and seriousness is not why I play games.

I don't understand these posts, there were a fair few games that showed gameplay there,  like over a dozen, and also a huge amount were stylised or cartoony rather than realistic or serious (which also has people complaining).

Like I don't think many seemed exciting, but these feel like stock posts you had prepared and didn't watch the stream.

Fucking clueless. The whole task is to generate interest/ excitement and that failed to do either. They could have run those in the last E3 presentation without anyone batting an eyelid.

Hope MGS have some serious heavy hitters for that July reveal...

@Ry

That impressed me, the weather effects in the first game. Thought it  bit odd at first switching between a COD weapon and an old sword, but it certainly looked impressive.

I thought it was a new Shadow Warrior game at first.

It had a mix of that, Titanfall, Bulletstorm. And it graphically looked better than anything else.

And made by one guy. Damn.

You wouldn't buy the new Yakuza?

More fool you.

It looks so gooood!

Any game where a barbed-wire baseball bat is being pulled out of the ground like Excalibur should be automatically installed on everyone’s hard drive and you can maybe opt-out at some point but really why would you.

Zero wow factor with either Sony or Microsoft's initial briefings. Bigger captive audience than ever before; desperately in need of some sort of excitement ant they both lead with fairly insipid offerings. Gaming equivalent of the Disgrace of Gijon, with neither side trying to win my hard-earned cash.

Yes, better days are ahead and they will up their game; but I'm totally non-plussed.

Anyone else take comfort that even with all that is going on in the world right now, a new racing game is being launched with a new console?

Some things are just hard-wired into the fabric of reality.

Or even DL them if they were on GamePass.

Some good looking Xbox One games there. Most will look nice on my 1X.

But as a showcase for next-gen gameplay, Lolageddon that was fucking bad. Zero need to upgrade any time soon based on that. MS must know that was cack. They just must.

I started intrigued by the GigerPorn but was laughing at the over-the-top nature of it by the end. And there was literally zero fucking gameplay in that Valhalla gameplay reveal.

Oi, next gen, you’re drunk and at the party a couple of years too early, go home.
