Jared Leto seemingly confirmed to star in the film we've all been waiting for, the adaptation of B-list Spider-Man villain Morbius, continuing Sony's apparent quest to spin off a film of every Spider-Man villain they can.

 

Sony, please stop.

That's being generous.

I was going to go D list but I couldn't remember if he'd featured in some seminal storyline than elevates him somehow, so split the difference.

 

Pretty much my entire knowledge of the character comes from the 90s cartoon tbh.

Whoa there, Morbius may be D-list in terms of the MCU but his comics pedigree is top-tier; he's been handled by Roy Thomas, Gil Kane, Steve Gerber, Doug Moench and the brilliant Tom Sutton, among others. There were some beautifully drawn Morbius stories published in Vampire Tales in the 70s, all gibbets and fog and Gothic atmosphere. There's loads of potential in a Morbius film, although of course this one will be rubbish.

I had a comic book in the 70s where he was the main villain and Spiderman grew two extra pairs of arms. Can’t remember anything about the comic other than it being confiscated at school by Miss Graves. The story was definitely covered in the 90s cartoon though.

500 new issues from the last five years? He's definitely been in ASM in the last 500 issues. But I guess maybe if you started with the sixties ones then skipped past the nineties you might read that many without seeing him mentioned.

I for some reason pictured Matt Lucas instead of Smith then imagined a half George Dawes / half morbius and now I'm happy.

The last 30 mins of Venom were pretty good after a very average first hour.
