Very bizaare, surely Disney knew of these things when they employed him to do Guardians?

Very dissapointing as I've followed him on social media since the first Guardians film and always found he came across as a pretty great person with some solid values, unaffraid to speak up against the shits of the world.

I've not seen these old tweets, but do wonder if stuff like that is enough to sack someome 10 years later after they've already tried to make amends for it. Like he said, hes a much different person than he was 10 years ago, I know I am.

Its seems like this far right guy had a personal vendetta against Gunn though, probably because hes been so anti Trump and gun the last few years.

It's also a massive shame as Gunn knew where Guardians was going and had a unique style I don't think will be recreated. The script is done though so at least Disney have that to work off.

Yeah this is all about his anti Trump stuff. The guy who searched the old tweets is also an aspiring director and a total scumbag who was behind the whole pizza gate crazy shit saying that a bunch of liberals were running a paedophile ring in a pizza shop that ended with some right wing nut going in with a gun.

It's quite scary that something you put on the Internet a decade ago is enough to get you fired.

I think we all have Internet posts we made years ago that we look back on in embarrassment and horror.

sure, 'years ago'... :coffee:

Also this was set up to target Gunn right at SDCC to ensure he was sacked. There is no way that this just so happened to come out a day before SDCC and Marvel’s announcements.

Gunn has been massive in the movement against Trump and the right wingers hate him.

I mean he did PG Porn etc and Tromeo stuff.

I suspect Disney might find themselves on the other end of a different backlash.

Probably not. The tweets aren't great but like

@Fierce Poodle said I image rather than just a telling off they've just sacked him to avoid another Lasseter situation.

Cernovich is the last person to actually care about/be offended by the poor taste jokes in those old tweets. "Freeze peach" etc etc.

Presumably they've only dug them up now because they know that the left, upon discovering that their "fave is problematic", has a tendency to eat its own alive. Even more so now, in the wake of MeToo.

But in this case, it seems to have skipped the stage of causing an internet controversy and just jumped straight to Disney firing him. In which case, it's worked better than they ever could have expected.

Also, is this one real?

Well, we can't all waste the forum volunteer's time by getting them to nuke an account just so we can instantly reappear as a new member can we ;)

Weird situation. He tweeted some pretty awful stuff really, he wasn't young and the internet wasn't exactly new. Stupid really, people never learn.

Not saying that's who he is, but you have to be a little smarter. He was verified too so not exactly before he was famous.

Strange. I don't even find those tweets offensive, the spirit they're meant to be taken in is obvious, even though that doesn't necessarily make them funny. Even if they were genuinely objectionable, a person can change a lot in ten years - plus it sounds like he's already publicly apoligised for some of them even before they were dredged up this time. Cernovich was concern trolling and it worked. I guess Disney just didn't want any bad publicity at all and the detail or nuance wasn't important.
