Matthew McFadyen is giving one of the greatest performances of all time in this show. Everyone else is brilliant, don't get me wrong, but the way he manages to be so camp and so weak and so awful and so funny throughout.

The

fuck off Shiv scene at the dinner table

is probably my favourite bit of the second series.

I love this show and will be gutted when it's over.

Connor has a great line in the last episode I saw.

Spoiler

Connor: It's interesting that dad's agreed to go back to Scotland for this dedication dinner.
Shiv: Yeah.
Connor: He didn't have it easy.
Shiv: Umm hmm.
Connor: He had to shit outside, right? Sometimes I think I'll never truly understand dad until I shit outside.

also:

Spoiler

Ewan: The Logan Roy School of Journalism. What's next, the Jack the Ripper Women's Health Clinic?

The two stand outs for me have been 'Which side are you on?' (Board room) and ''Hunting'. (Boar on the floor)

Just spectacular television, hopefully its getting the ratings it deserves because it must be spending some budget on the cast and location!

The way every singe member of the family says 'Greg' makes me happier than it should, it also upsets me I don't know a 'Greg'.

I've binged the whole of season 1 and half of season 2 over the course of this last week.  What an unbelievable show!  I'm shocked that this thread isn't a lot longer to be honest.

For me, I see a lot of similarities between this and Game of Thrones.  It's as if Tywin Lannister was a media mogul and Jaime, Cersei and Tyrion were all jostling for position and fucking each other over to succeed him.  The actors are all amazing, and the writing very sharp.

So happy they renewed for Season 3.

Thats good news about S3. It filled great characters and actors. Siobhan (sp? I always thought Shiv is perfect name for her character, sums her up well.) Is megahot.

Weirdly I am with Roman, I find Geri incredibly attractive for some reason.

That makes me bad doesn't it?

I finished season 1 last night and I was slightly disappointed by the last couple of episodes.

Spoiler

It felt like it was building to this great confrontation between Ken, Logan, Stewie, Sandy and the rest of the family. And I was looking forward to a boardroom bloodbath or some kind of last minute reversal from Ken. But instead we got that pretty ridiculous car crash that wrapped everything up for too neatly. I guess they had written themselves into a corner but the resolution felt quite lazy – hey, here’s an expendable pleb, plot-problem solved!

The acting and photography etc were all top class. And there was some proper hilarious bits, Roman watching the rocket launch, Connor ‘debating’ the politician. But the last couple of episodes were a weak ending to an otherwise amazing first season.

I’ll probably take a break before starting season 2.

Really great end to season, this show just gets better as it goes on.

Some gifs from the finale, contains spoilers so don't open up and view until the episode has been watched. Edit Not sure why there is a huge gap, I double spoiler tagged it but I can't get ride of the massive dead space, weird.

I really wasnt expecting the ending at all.

Spoiler

Was Logan setting Kendal up to do this to prove he is a "killer" after all?

As an aside, what about that fucking yacht? Holy shit i cannot believe somebody owns that thing. Not just the size but the interior, little baby craft and a inflatable slides!

I'd been saving up season 2 of this as think it is a great binge show, watched the whole thing in a week finishing it last night.

Thought it was fantastic, its so focussed with no filler side quests or storylines and I think the second was even stronger than the first as having established the characters and world it really doubled down on the main storylines.

I'd read about the 'wealth advisors' on the show who add little things like the Roys never ducking getting out of a helicopter (cos you don't when you've used them since being a kid) or just handing back cycle helmets knowing somebody will take it (never saying thanks to the staff).

The last episode set on that fabulous yacht was superb, almost a stage play in how it focussed mainly on the whole group talking and working thru the problem and solutions. Not sure how they got access ($$££) but they've really shown some billionaire lifestyle this season with the huge estate at the Hamptons and this yacht, these aren't lottery win wishlist items, this is mega wealth stuff.

Love the music too in this, it's not licensed tracks but a custom score and frequently seems perfectly matched to the events unfolding.

Great stuff and second only to Chernobyl for me this year.

HBO/Sky renewed for a 3rd season already.

Saw an interesting comment on the Guardian regarding the season 2 finale

Spoiler

Was Logan aware that it was him who had to go, and the whole episode was essentially him testing his children to see who passed the 'killer' test, which both Shiv and Roman failed at the final hurdle.

I took his small smirk at the end as a bit of pride that Kendall stepped up, but can see how the broader test to see who really could do what was needed fits well.

good link thanks

so if that is the case ....

and he was always lining up Kendall some of the other storylines make less sense, unless he was using Rhea and Shiv (and Roman to a lesser extent) to push Kendall into doing something big.

I get how it turned out that way in last few eps but earlier on in the season that didn't seem to be the plan to me.

I can watch season 2 on catch up in sky but season 1 is not available (I don't have box sets). Would I be doing myself a massive disservice watching a overview video of season 1 on YouTube and diving straight into season 2?

It's a detailed character heavy type of show - you could get the main thrust of the storylines from a synopsis but I suspect part of the enjoyment from this comes from spending so much time with such unpleasant and fleshed out characters

Yes.

It's still on NowTV I think. Might only be for a month though so get on it quick!
