Star Trek: Picard - 'Best Trek Ever' says everyone

Modern drama is tending towards season long , or multi-season story arcs, but I still really like the short distilled sci-fi ideas that you would see being explored in a single episode of ST:TNG.

Are we going to get that again, or pew-pew and court intrigue like countless other shows? I hope at least a little.

If you haven't already then you should definitely watch The Orville. It's exactly what you're looking for.

I agree.  I always wonder if it is great or terrible for writers to be on a show like TNG.  Well, probably not terrible, maybe scary, but whilst you can tell a story about anything you essentially have to start with a blank page.  Writing for a show like CSI, well half the script probably already exists as a template that you just adapt each week.  Coming to the end of a 26 episode season on TNG and having to find a new idea to tell a story about is probably a combination of fun and terrifying.

Given he's wearing his old TNG-era uniform, I'm pretty sure it isn't really Data. Dream sequence or holodeck, surely, playing the role of Android Jiminy Cricket.

Oh that is definitely a dream sequence. I meant other than that. Which would explain the dream sequence.

Regarding the reliance on old characters, and the new ones not looking great.....tbh I'm only seeing them all as supporting characters that are there to facilitate Picards arc, and that is fine by me. I mean, the show has his fucking name on it! I'm tuning in for him, couldnt care less about the rest of em.

Not impossible I guess, as he should still be teaching at Starfleet Academy. Hopefully, Picard makes a big thing of encouraging him to come on one last mission, then just sticks him in the transporter room for five seasons.

Nah he'd get a full episode of being horribly tortured and then everything will be fine at the end.

It is telling that the positive reactions thus far are basically only I RECOGNISE THIS THING.

Wonder how long remember this will be able to carry it.

Counterpoint - how long will Patrick Stewart be able to carry this?

Hoping this turns out to just be One Foot In The Grave in space.

Last of the Picard Family Wine.
