Spoiler

Hey we're at 21st century Earth, well done everyone!

Everyone gets chance to all look around each other and nod and wink and be like eeeey good stuff, then SUDDENLY they are just burning up in the atmosphere like a comet without warning. This is not how Space works.

Spoiler

What's that? Their re-entry seemed a bit too instantaneous? I'm sorry I can't hear you over the sound of them crashing into a green morass that eventually revealed to be bad CGIed trees.

Oh no Elnor, who will do the beheadings now?

Watch them "fix" his death later with timey shit.

Spoiler

Seems a bit harsh on Picard to blame him for being fucked over by Q constantly.

This talking in a room scene is so fucking boring. They have literally crash landed on 21st century Earth - any other Star Trek show would already be using that fact for fun and hijinks. It's like they want to spend as much tedious time as possible not having to make use of the scenario they now find themselves in.

Spoiler

Picard stays on the ship, wtf? Get outside already! Make use of the scenario already! Jeeeesus.

Lol it's so obvious Jurati has had a raging hard on for getting inside the Borg Queen ever since she got on the ship. She'll "turn" on them of course at some point.

Spoiler

Oh okay, shit, we finally get them outside half way in. Great jorb.

A little girl goes, "wow, are you a superhero?". Are kids that stupid? She'd be Tiktoking that shit to show the world before you could blink. She ain't keeping that secret.

Rafi has been there 5 minutes and she's already being mugged wtf

Time for the huge, heavy handed metaphors about how society is falling apart in the 21st century with absolutely no insight or subtlety.

Spoiler

I've just mentally checked out for the Jurati subconscious whistle stop tour bit. It's especially uninteresting. We get it, she's a lonely cat lady. Christ

That's it, you've had your outside bit! Time for featureless buildings bits!

Rios finding his future timeline destroying love interest already I see.

Seven's "these people are all fucked" speech on the nose as expected.

Oh so Rios is a racist to Vulkans now?

Spoiler

Oh no, I hope Rios is forced to do some City on the Edge of Forever choice shit. That'll help his smoking habit.

Why would a Borg care about having legs?

Immigration raid! The past sucked eh?

Alison Pill's "stolen memory" stuff is dumb. Unless Borg literally only have computer memory? I dunno.

Pffft. That was so utterly wasteful of its premise on so many levels it actually hurt. Nothing actually interesting done with the fact they are in another time period. Probably cheaper to film I guess?

Recognised the director's name this week and thought it couldn't be the same person.

Shame the episode was absolutely dire though. Time to change the thread title...

Funny, I was just thinking about the episode's density.

Lea Thompson directed last weeks as well. Maybe that means she did the first one too, I dunno.

About the start of that episode:

Spoiler

I thought the bad guys beamed in and shot Eleanor, giving him a nice wound in the shoulder that killed him slowly.

But our heroes grabbed the bad guys phasers and shot them, which caused them to instantly explode in a mess of red fizzles.

Did I miss something?

I lol'ed at camera drifting away from Husband Character and his speech being muffled. Not even the show can feign interest in weak side villains.

Rafi is such a terrible actor and character. Perhaps they could make her more one dimensional and obnoxious - maybe have her jump on tables like a speed runner in a Half Life cutscene whenever Picard is trying to talk?

The Watcher is obviously going to be

Spoiler

Guinan

.

Needs more Q.

Are all of the main cast (except Jurati and Elnor) older than the original series cast when they made Star Trek IV? It feels like it.

Presumably they...

Spoiler

... set the phasers to kill? Although the phasers in this seem more like disruptors and aren't firing beams. Not sure why Elnor would be bleeding from a phaser hit either. Phasers cause burns, his wound was more like a bullet.

Did Raffi and Space Elf even share any dialogue in season 1. The whole devastated mother figure thing they're going for rings so false. I know they're trying for a mission must come first due to the stakes thing with Picard, but he was supposed to be this surrogate father to him and they don't even bother putting in a couple of quick shots of him looking concerned but having to grit his teeth. In fact throughout the episode he comes across as more confused and doddery like he doesn’t fully understand what's going on and needs someone to take him for a lie down, rather than resolute which is what I think the writers think they wrote.

Duh! Everybody knows that Vulcans and Romulans are much stronger than humans! Clearly this episode is just building on that fact the same way the Abrams Star Wars movies expanded the Force powers......

I've been (silently) critical of the criticisms of this season by you guys. I've been silent because I'm at least quite tipsy, if not outright drunk, when watching it- so I can't be sure how objective I am.

But even through the beer goggles episode 3 was quite dire.

Actually- you know what? This season is going down the same rabbit hole as season 1. I'm giving it one more episode to redeem itself- and then it's getting consigned to the Discovery category in my head if it fails.

It also would have been a good opportunity to demonstrate how Starfleet training had developed the character for example. But no. No thinking. No learning.

And it looks like he paid the price for it! He might not have been shot instantly if he wasn't so brutal on the guard, as called out by Annika's hubby. Actions have consequences

I like to think that

Spoiler

in the alternate evil-verse there is no 'stun' setting, just 'die slowly and painfully' and 'obliterate'.

Also, timeline theory:

Spoiler

Is this 'one single change' that Q makes going to be rigging a fucking presidential election or something? Because that's how on the nose the social commentary feels.

Oh, also I feel a bit bad that the only guy to get comments on his 'weird clothes' is the one with relatively normal contemporary looking stuff compared to the rest of the crew. Unlucky.

TBH I feel like any time-travel plot from now on needs to have some Bill&Ted-esque tangles in it. Like, they'll be mid conversation and then another version of themselves appears and is all 'fucking stop it, you've ballsed it all up! The butterflies, man!', before themselves being interrupted by a third version of themselves. Maybe they can hire out a meeting room in one of these fancy conference buildings they did the shooting at.
