Yeah so it's going to be a long night tonight :(

Bad enough i'm adding and base coating new models, but still got all my paperwork to do too!

Really shouldent have tried this with a week to do it and such little information to start.

Massive thanks to you @And youve been a patient saint with me.

@The Eagle Lord make sure you keep us informed of how you get on.

Yeah i will do.

Im the only noob playing so i dont expect a lot from it but it gives me a reason to do a bit more then the odd dabble in painting when i feel like it.

Its all about not embarrassing myself more than anything, a lot of this is already so over my head.

Can anyone tell me how i fill in resources on my command roster please?

I cannot find any sold information at all on the internet of where to find it in my manual to do this.

It's the section of:-

Intellegence

Material

Morale

Territory

I cant find anything anywhere on where to find this stuff, this is where i feel Games Workshop has dropped a hurdle.

Would anyone be interested (once im all sorted) helping me make some YouTube videos for this kind of stuff such filling in the forms finding the information in the manuals etc?

@The Eagle Lord you're welcome - sorry I didn't pick up on the roster bit!

Don't worry so much about it though, it's just a game, don't stress so much about it. It's fine to be unpainted or to ask questions. It's supposed to be fun. Don't worry about embarrassing yourself. The only embarrassing thing that can happen is someone being a dick to you for not being as good at warhammer as they are...

I'm going to play the total noob when I turn up for my game, lull them into a false sense of security, then crush them with my tactical acumen*

As for resources - I don't think you get them yet, they're part of the campaign as far as I could tell.

* get wiped out turn 1.

Well that was fucking horrible.

I'll do a full breakdown before my next game next Thursday.

I will need some advice as what isn't captured is dead so I will need some help working out what strategies I have for what's still alive.

have you looked at getting some Wolfen, wolves  etc so you have some close combat wrecking ability? your list currently is basically pale blue space marines isn't it? those wolfen are mean in killteam

I'm not sure what I can and cannot take in the current system is all. It's all a bit vague and you can tell it caters for people that have made the transition from vanilla Warhammer 40k.

i seem to recall the Yogscast guys doign a Games Night video series on Kill Team where one match was SW vs whatever. and they had 3 normal dudes, a wolf and a wolfen, the wolfen and wolf could advance before their first turn into cover then got up close to the enemy early on.  the wolf got murdered, but the Wolfen just ate through some Chaos Rubrics. the Sw lost, but that was due to some really terrible positioning of his normal troops out in the open allowing the Rubric marines to melt them.

you'll get there

That might have been the previous version?

Theres no chapter specific rules, yet.

So you can only take intercessors, reivers, tacs and scouts, and sarges of each.

OK here we go!

Game 1

Dude playing Necrons wasn't happy to be teaching me the game but the store guy kind of explained to him "to get in the spirit of things"

Space Wolves (me) VS Necrons (other dude)

So we played the Campaign Capture Mission (P57)

We did the initial rolls and Necrons got to place first, placing both his sniper on the high ground, his rapid fire leader in cover of the door way and his charging Necrons in the surround cover.

My whole team had to spawn with a singular piece of wall of cover.

On my first move phase i started to spread my marines towards the second set of cover however the guy didn't explain "charging"  to me so conveniently i ended up in between cover with his sniper taking pot shots at me so i decided i would push some of my marines forward as he brought his Melee Necrons out of cover.

After his sniper took some pot shots but failed to wound anyone he all of a sudden decided to explain "charging" to me so he could bring one of his Stabby Necrons forward to attack my forwarding Reiver Combat Specialist.

Shocker it allowed him to come forward, and start what would be my down fall.

Suddenly it became this cluster fuck for me.

And before i knew it i was one specialist down and swamped with Necrons stabbing everyone to death. The swarm tactics seem to be really efficient way of killing me off.  I had really shit rolls on the dice with a combination of bad retreats and counters.

The bad rolls continued for us both for a while with me trying my best to keep some cover from the sniper whom i was taking potshots at with my missile launcher to no avail and then before i knew it i had lost my Reiver Sargent Leader as well. And before i knew it my Intercessor Sargent and Intercessor Gunner Demolitions specialist were pinned again.

The Sargent was getting stabbed in the face through the cover, no rolls were helping me at all.

Next thing i know the game is over, a long Missile Launcher Marine on the board as we reached our fourth and final round.

And both my Intercessor Gunner Demolitions Specialist & my Intercessor Sargent are going to be missing next weeks game.

It was an interesting experience which didnt seem very friendly as a whole and is also far more complicated to play as well which took me by surprised but i shall have some little plays against myself using my First Strike starter box and get use to all the phases etc i can.

I started my command roster with 11 models but i am going to add all ive got left from the magazines etc so i can bring the command roster up a bit and field some green horns with my surviving members etc.

And again a thank you to @And for all the advice, the guy at the store made a point of saying i was advised well with what i had to play with.

People like this shouldn’t be allowed to play.

Introducing new people to a game is an honour and a privilege.

That was the general attitude outside of the store guy.

There was a really good lad who showed a lot of attention and wanted to talk about why i wanted to play and why i picked the Space Wolves and everything. When he left i was like "oh your not playing" and he was all "i cant play comp against these guys" i kind of now know what he means i think it was all a bit serious as its a competition of sorts.

Basically Krak has the chance to do multiple wounds and the frag has multiple chances to do single wounds.

So for kill team if your enemy has multiple wounds left you’d use krak and if you hit you do lots of damage

if your target has 1 wound you’d use frag as you’ve more chances of hitting but the hits only do one wound.

I havent got got my Manual back yet but in 40k basically you can throw a grenade when firing overwatch instead of shooting. Still needs a 6 to hit.

I think one kill team member can use grenades instead of shooting each turn. So if you’ve someone with a weak gun (like a reiver) you can use grenades instead if you’re in range.

Right. So I’ve built a roster of death guard but I’m umming and aaahing over fighters and champ load outs

I’ve put in a close combat champ

with power fist and plasma pistol and a cheap champ with power fist and Bolter as champs get 2 melee attacks I figured I’d better give them the fists.

Then 4 gunners with plasma, Melta, blightlauncher and plague spewer to cover all options.

So if I want a team with all 3 specialists I can run either 2 fighters and a gunner and the expensive champ and 2 normal guys or 2 gunners a fighter and the cheap champ.

Sound reasonable?

First game is Thursday. Half of my team is unpainted.

I'd be looking at what you could come up against.

I watched some guys playing online and in another store and everyone seems to be going for distance plays it's like there is some kind of broken meta regarding it.

As for you team being unpainted our store rule was at least base coat and faction markings and clear visible weapons.

And you saw how little my Space Wolves were painted!

Have you got you book back? If so have you looked at the Specialist Tactics much?

And of course the very best of luck and be sure to share you games with us.

Ill be spraying the last guys tonight so they’ll have some paint on but have enough painted to cobble something together.

All have proper weapons except a couple don’t have the knives but they are basically GW stock models so if they give me shit about them then they can suck it.

There’s a couple of tactics I have in mind - if I run my plague spewer guy he auto hits and can add +1 to wounds against obscured targets and the tactic stacks another +1 on a s5 weapon. So that should be autokill anything T3 if I have that right.

Will have to see if there is actually an opponent for me on thursday, guy in the shop just said you can reserve a spot at a table and then he'll pair people up.
