In case anyone missed it, GW released the first set of FAQs/Errata for Kill Team last week. There are a few rule changes, so it's well worth taking a look through the documents.

I’m making this the kill team thread to try and dilute the GW mega thread

managed a game last night against my mate.

We we played Genestealers cults (me) vs Dark elves (him)

We've never played with these factions before, and adding in CP, tactics etc - so a 6 round match took over 3 hours to play.

As cults are crap at shooting I have a very melee heavy build.

2 stealers

3 acolyte fighters with rock saw/drill/cutter

2 neo gunners

neo leader

morf leader

He had a mix of wyches and kabalites.

In short - I lost. Had some horrendous rolling so I kept putting flesh wounds on his guys but he kept taking mine out.

He had a blaster that does d6 damage and that kept killing folks due to him rolling loads of dice on the injury rolls.

I lost both stealers to charging in, landing loads of hits that failed to wound or injure then getting killed straight away by a basic melee attack in return. Frustrating.

The genestealer rock weapons are hilarious though.

I forgot to say we had our return leg the other week.

he played GSC this time and took a mix of stealers and acolytes/metamorphs. No neophytes. No ranged guns really.

I had had a mix of whyches and kabalites taking as many special weapons as I could. My combat drug was extra movement so not as good as it could have been.

And he hid. All game basically. Charged from cover when he could but tried his hardest not to get shot.

It nearly worked. I squeaked a win when the game ended and he had one less dude near an objective. Was very close.

That blaster he he took me apart with last game - I hurt nothing with it.

Agonisers are great. Power swords not so much if you are S3.

Overall though it’s a great game. Very fun.

we also limited ourselves to the tactics form the books rather than the extras on the card son the starter sets.

Sady I think it will be difficult to convince my buddy to play 40k over this given the choice.

Aah, right, but last chance to buy is not the same as bargain bin, they aren't any cheaper are they, just not getting restocked.

Some of them look like a bargain at £20 vs the cost of the model but some are crap value - Commissar for example

Yeah, it's not discounted, it just means those little boxes (with all the cards and tokens) won't be in circulation.

The rulebook is still available, it's just these mini starter sets. And don't forget, they've been bundling Commanders in with the new faction starter sets as well.

What ruleset are your group playing with? You can only use the commanders if you're using that expansion (which increases the point count allowed to accommodate them).

If you're just using the base rules, they're of no use.

I’d not worry, play for fun with the guys you have and just get used to the game and rules etc. Remember your tactics.

What faction are you going to be against?

Tyranids or Genestealers whichever was the latest edition.

As marines you want to keep your distance, make sure you've got something that does good damage for shooting. They can charge further than you so try and make it so they'll be up against 2 guys if they do.

Had my first two games of kill team today and incredibly won both! Was at a games pub night, my opponent and me were both newcomers to kill team but there were others there to help us.

I went Primaris, he went Tyranids. The first mission was basically me hanging back and shooting, combat was mainly defensive and my pistols did a lot of time work, plus the dice god's here definitely on my side. His Tyranid warriors were terrifying but the termigants were so useless they basically could be ignored. Genestealers were decent but squishy, they did the most damage.

Second game we were more comfortable with the rules but he ignored the objectives and zerg rushed me. I got lucky in my first turn of shooting and took out his synapse, them my hero combat specialist reiver sarge with a combat knife (5 attacks!) Dominated the centre field by charging two genestealers then surviving a charge by a third. He killed one, wounded one then fell back to let the others get bolted to death.

The absolute legend however was one of my random intersessors who my opponent planned to outflank and shoot to death with his termigants. The Primaris marine in question threw a frag grenade over his shoulder without looking rolling a 6 for shots, which I split to one each bug, hit 5 times and wounded 4. They then failed all their armour and I fatally wounded 4 times. I killed 4 Tyranids with 1 frag grenade! I felt pretty bad about that I mean what are the odds. My opponent conceded and I went home pretty chuffed.

Well got my arse well and truly handed to me last night. Psykers = good, Old Marines = bad.

Firstly played a 100pt servants of the Abyss list, the psykers and megavolt cultists performed but my god standard guard and marines are woeful. Second game which is pictured below looked cool. But in a 200pt commander games only the plasma marine and the greater possessed did anything. I think Khorne berserkers have a place but really 100pt of my list did nothing!

A lot comes down to dice rolls in kill team. The number of times you roll well on hit and wound only for it to end up as a flesh wound is a bit frustrating. Multi-damage weapons like meltaguns or blasters are really good in this respect.

Plasma is always a good shout though.

I was toying with an admech list with 6 gunners all with plasma but

1) I only have 1 actual plasma Skitari model

2) I’m not “that guy”

from playing against them, old small marines are only any good for the heavy/special weapons, but they get shot turn 1 more often than not.

I quite like reivers. Most of our games degenerate into a brawl as I have a fair few decent melee teams.

Revisers get about and are tough enough to useful, Intersessors are good at 15' as they can rapid fire plus loose the to hit penalty and -1ap. Old Marines literally have nothing going for them with bolt guns. Chaos Astartes really struggling at the moment, maybe Death Guard would be alright.

Next kill team will be Skitarii, plus I'm to finally paint up UR-06 (?) From Blackstone for a bit of tanking.

There's just no reason to take an old marine with a bolter for 12 points when you can have an intercessor with 2 wounds for 15.

I've got some chaos marines but haven't got round to playing them yet (also haven't got commanders or elites book yet)

Dark elves are fun, wyches backed up with a couple of special weapon kabalites

Genestealer cults are great in melee if you get acolytes with the heavy rock weapons.

As for ad mech - have only played with Skitaari, but now have some sicarians and that robot too, its just hard to build him into a 100 point  team as hes 30 points!

Got a game planned for tonight. My mate is playing DG and has sent a list with 3 plasma guns in it (leader and 2 gunners), 2 fighters, and a marine as Combat specialist so he has 4 guys with more than one attack.

Gulp

Im playing ad-mech and have 2 ruststalkers, 4 vanguard and the robot. I’m going to need to get in his face quickly I think.

Played 2 games - won both.

first was the ambush mission, he chose to defend and escape, i massacred him.

My crappest dude - a basic vanguard - killed 2 of his plague marines. Terrible save rolling from him. Robot offed another guy. A rout.

Second was recover intelligence.

He started strong but I managed a couple of cheeky charges that tied up lots of his team and was ahead on points at end of r4, when the game ended.

I think if that game went to turn 6 he’d have won as he was staring to whittle me down.

Got battered last night.

Made some silly mistakes on both sides but mine were worse.

Chaos marines vs Loyalists

I had

A cultist leader

2 cultist gunners : Flamer and stubber

Champion with plasma pistol and chainsword

2 gunners : Flamer and heavy bolter

3 Marines with chainswords and bolt pistols

He had:

Intercessor sergeant and gunner with stalker rifles

Reiver and reiver sergeant

2 tac gunners : heavy bolter and plasma

The problem is we decided to use chapter/legion attributes. He picked salamanders, which allows 1 reroll of a hit AND a wound roll, per phase. So while that doesn't sound so bad, in practice it means between 4 and 6 free re-rolls per round.  So you can reroll an overwatch shot and wound roll in movement, hit and wound in shooting phase, hit and wound in fighting phase. This had a massive impact and took at least 3 of my guys out.  There's nothing else that comes close to this level of usefulness in either the Marine or CSM traits. It's ludicrously OP and means I'll be using it as much as possible.

I'd picked world eaters, so I got an extra attack if I charged, and this is linked to how I lost. He had 2 guys camped on an objective on some terrain, need move of 5" to get up there, I had one guy engaged with them at the edge and 3 below waiting to climb up. I should have piled in with my guy to move him away from the edge, but didn't, so next turn, when I went to charge - instead of needing a 5 to get up there, I needed a 7 to get far enough on to have room, 2 of my charge rolls came up short with 6's so I couldn't get my guys into combat. I still killed his guys but in one more turn, meant my force was too split up and I couldn't take the other objectives. Some bad calls lead to some deaths and then a broken kill team and that was it, playing with 9 models, as soon as you break its almost impossible not to be shaken.

Learning experience. Also totally forgot about faction specific tactics!

@Captain Novaforce

It's worded as per phase, so yeah, totally OP.

Chaos marines - was my first game with them.

As flamers are so good in KT I thought I'd have one of those and then you can only have a heavy bolter on top of that.

So I specced my other 4 dudes as brawlers:

Aspiring champ gets 2 attacks, plus 1 more for having a chainsword, plus 1 more if he charges for being a world eater.

Combat guy gets  2 attacks, plus 1 more for having a chainsword, plus 1 more if he charges for being a world eater.

Zealot guy  gets 1 attack, plus 1 more for having a chainsword, plus 1 more if he charges for being a  Zealot, plus 1 more if he charges for being a world eater.

Bog standard guy gets 1 attack, plus 1 more for having a chainsword, plus 1 more if he charges for being a world eater

So that's 15 attacks over 4 guys if they all charge in together, before death to the false emperor kicks in.

It just failed to work out due to me being dumb.

I was also stupid with my cultists and got 2 killed unnecessarily

In the elites book, you can spec a berserker champion up to get like 12 attacks a turn. Which would be crazy good

It's still really hard fighting marines, T4, 3+ save, 2 wounds, makes them very hard to remove.

Especially Primaris I find don't forget the extra attack and better guns, the -1 AP is really helpful, plus the 30' range means that at 15' they are lethal as rapid firing and loosing minus to hit. The difference over old school bolters shouldn't be that much but on the smaller kill team tables it is.

Yeah , it’s hard to find a counter, you need a weapons that’s greater than S4, with some good AP and preferably multiple damage per hit. And then you need to hit them.

New starter set incoming, Reivers vs Tau with different scenery, looks like same board and stuff.

I was looking at starting a tau team but would probably need about £100 worth of kits to get a good spread!

Played a game last night with some ad-mech and failed to kill a single one of my opponents marines. They just shrugged everything off. I just really lacked AP. So I’ve gone and cut the arms off 4 skitarii and remade them with plasma guns and also turned my ruststalkers into infiltrators with power swords.

Next time we play he’ll be looking at everything hittting with -3 Ap.

I lost the game , narrowly as we were equal on points but according to the mission this meant defender won, which wasn’t me. I just needed to kill one of his specialists and I would have won.
