He worked on The Andromeda Strain and had a daughter called Andromed or Andromeda? (It's not clear if the missing "a" at the end of the name in Amy Trumbull's Facebook post is a typo, but it was quoted verbatim by Variety and The Hollywood Reporter.) I wonder if she was born before or after he worked on that film?

Oh no … RIP

a real visionary who worked on my top two favourite sci-fi epics. Anyone who could meet Kubrick’s standards deserves every plaudit.

and he directed one of my other favourite sci-fi films - silent running.

such a loss , this is one of those few “celebrity” deaths that make me feel really sad/down.

I didn't just think, but I *knew* Bamber died about 20 years ago. I remember the news announcing it. I also know that's the reason Jeremy Paxman hosts it now not him.

So I'm very surprised to hear this today.

It’s called the Manbamber effect.

I had thought Barry Cryer probably died years ago. He's one of those blokes who looked old even when I saw him on telly when I was young. Then I heard him on Radio 4 a few weeks ago. He was still bloody funny too.

He had just started a new podcast just before Christmas, Now Where Were We - the conceit was that he and his son would catch up with friends he’d not seen during Covid down the pub. It’s great, but it is wall-to-wall showbiz anecdotes and jokes, so it will depend on your tolerance for that. There are only six episodes, the first ones with Stephen Fry and Danny Baker are particularly good, but it shows how sharp and funny he remained till the end.

Anna Karen.  First became famous as Olive in On The Buses (a thankless role in one of the most horrific sitcoms this country has ever produced) before playing Aunt Sal in Eastenders for 12 years.

Apparently bed bound due to breaking her back a few years ago and died in a house fire.

That's really sad to hear. :(

Holiday on the Buses is still one of the best films ever made though. It has an exploding toilet!

Mr Joshua's boss, Mitchell Ryan has passed away aged 88. I always liked him Grosse Point Blank. Most will likely know him from Lethal Weapon but he appeared in over 130 features.

Always loved seeing him pop up. Grosse Point Blank is one of my favourites. Gonna watch it tonight.

The last thing I saw her in was as the Madam of a Roman brothel in HBOs Rome. She was bloody good in everything. We watched some of Open All Hours on Yesterday the other week and my six year old girl was belly laughing at some bits. It's one of my all time favourites.

I had completely forgotten she played that role.  I enjoyed Rome immensely at the time & bought the Blu Ray box set but never watched it again.  This could be as good a time as any to rectify.
