Irish actor Pat Laffan - best known for playing milkman Pat Mustard in Father Ted - has died at the age of 79.

Announcing the news, his agents described him as "one of the leading stage actors of his generation".

Father Ted creator Graham Linehan tweeted: "Rest in peace, Pat, a pleasure to work with you."

Throughout his career, Laffan appeared in almost 40 films and made 30 TV appearances, including in BBC's EastEnders and in RTE's The Clinic.

He was also known to Irish audiences for his portrayal of Mr Burgess in Roddy Doyle's 1993 film The Snapper.

In a statement on social media, the Lisa Richards Agency, which represented Laffan for almost 30 years, said it was with "tremendous sadness" that it announced his death.

I remember watching Q: The Winged Serpent at a friends house when I was a kid. Or at least up until the part where the window cleaner gets his head bitten off and the bloody stump of his neck hits the window pane with a big splat. And then I was out of there! Couldn’t stomach gory movies at that age.

 

I’d say RIP Larry Cohen, but I can’t imagine the mad bastard resting in “peace”. :lol:

IMDB suggests he played Dean Martin, so I presume it was more of a cameo in the Jack Rabbit Slim's scene as a waiter along with all of the other guys in suits and Marilyn Monroe's?

A couple of news sites have called him "star of Pulp Fiction", so I assumed I hadn't realised he was one of the supporting cast. That's barely a bit part.

I could be wrong, just guessing based on the character name, but I've watched it a good number of times, and like you, have no idea where he is in there!

I need to watch Superman II again. As a kid it was a chore cos of all the smoochy stuff, but is there a better moment in comic book film history than ‘evil’ Superman? What a fucking performance. Poor Christopher Reeve :(

It is cos of the separation at that point when Clark steps out of Superman and much of II is him giving up his power that I figured it was the same movie ..

I think Darrow is several steps above the not so famous. Especially on here. 

 

Proper gutted he's gone, was really shocked to see him on Pointless a couple of years ago. I hadn't realised his health was so poor and had lost a leg.
