Taskmaster

Shit son! So good to see a task attempt up there with the Josh’s tattoo. That’s up there with the best crazy prize task things... and maybe better than all of them because other great ones (marriage certificate, blank cheque, etc) you suspect none of them really amount to anything.

So I think NME overshot an embargo and announced the series 12 cast early? The story has been taken down now but the preview of the story was up and said

NME also said that there is a new Taskmaster-like show in the works, featuring a lot of the former contestants

https://www.nme.com/news/tv/david-mitchell-to-host-new-game-show-with-taskmaster-stars-2935199

According to a synopsis, Outsiders, which is a new original show set to air on Dave, will see David Mitchell “challenge” a returning cast of three pairs of comedians to prove they’ve got the mettle and skills to thrive in the great outdoors.”

The returning cast of comedians will include Taskmaster regulars Ed Gamble, Jamali Maddix, Jessica Knappett, Kerry Godliman and Lou Sanders alongside Toussaint Douglass.

Alex also said in the podcast that the new series of Taskmaster is scheduled to be broadcast in September.. so not -too- long to wait..

If anyone's immediately experiencing withdrawal, some kind soul has put all of series 1 of Taskmaster NZ up on YouTube, and it's (IMO) up there with the best UK series:

Takes a couple of episodes to get used to but it's brilliant.

+1

There are some blinding tasks in there, alongside something studio related that for me was up there with Wozniak's hat yesterday.

Really funny final episode. I really liked it when Alex announced Lee and Mikes time for the Knightmare-style task, Jamali shook his head at Charlotte and she visibly grimaced. :D I think I was still giddy from Mike falling over though cos then just before it cut to a break, Greg’s “and someone will win a coat hanger” line really got me laughing.

Great finale, but is Sarah Kendall the worst winner we've had? Admitted herself in episode one that she's pretty boring, and so she was, consistently. The other four all had great moments though. Cracking series. Excited for Alan Davies and Victoria CM, don't know much of the other three apart from Morgana in House of Fools.

She’s probably the most route one winner. Some great showings early on and then really solid consistency. I don’t know if I’d call her boring but I think the last few episodes haven’t been the best. For me she’s a nice middle ground character in the mix. The story they decided to tell was her miles out front and being caught. I think she’d come across a little differently if they’d not so front loaded her successes.

But, alongside Mike and Jamali being great and Charlotte struggling along and in a n endearing way she didn’t really stand out.

I don't have anything against her, she just didn't seem to try to make any effort to be funny or entertaining with her tasks. It was all very functional. Can't pick out any standout moments for her at all. I agree it was a good mix though, you can't have all five contestants playing the same role.

Lee also didn't shine as much as I'd hoped but I think he was mainly overshadowed by Mike's special brand of insanity.

It's probably her or Richard Herring  - both were incredibly boring and consistently went route one because they were competitive and really wanted to win. They weren't even aggressively competent in a way that was interesting or fun, just dull. Both seem like perfectly pleasant people, though.

I’ve started watching the NZ one. I don’t want to Google the spelling of their names for fear of spoilers but Brinley is great fun and I’m developing a bit of a thing for Madeline.

Paul (Alex) is pretty good but not sold on Jeremy the Taskmaster yet. Also really not sure about the two blokes, Lee and Guy. Guy (Paul’s brother) is especially grating.

I found I warmed to the two boys as you saw more of their tasks, they're a bit knobby in the studio segments. Guy in particular isn't playing the same irritatingly competitive character in the tasks as he is in the studio.

Some of Lee's approaches to the tasks are incredible 😁

I definitely have favourites, but the show is so wholesome with everyone laughing with and supporting each other I don't think I've ever found any of the contestants genuinely annoying.

I didn’t dislike series 11, but having just started watching series 7 (with James Acaster, Phil Wang, Jessica Knappet, Kerry Godliman and Rhod Gilbert) the gulf in quality is unbelievable. I think I laughed more in the first episode than I did in the whole of series 11. In fact, I think I laughed more at the contestants trying to excite Alex Horne than I did in all of series 11 put together.

Line up for New Zealand season 2:

Quote

They are Radio Hauraki host Matt Heath, comedian Urzila Carlson, podcaster and comedian Guy Montgomery, and Fred Award finalists David Correos and Laura Daniel.

Not seen a date yet. Not heard of any of them, but that was the case for season 1, and I loved that one.

Eurgh. Godliman. Her annoying pretend surprised face whenever she won made me want to punch the screen.

The second Champion of Champions special will mean you'll need a new TV.

This special will feature Ed Gamble, Kerry Godliman, Liza Tarbuck, Lou Sanders and Richard Herring, the winners of series 6 through 10. It will be broadcast some time in 2021

Episode 8 of the New Zealand Taskmaster (season 1) was great. The keyboard task and the outfit task were both outstanding.

Brynley is such a good contestant, and even Guy has grown on me. Still not feeling Leigh’s vibe, but I think I at least appreciate his angle.

Guy should definitely revert to his old look (when the tasks where filmed) over his studio look though, jeez. Like a different bloke.

Season 2 of New Zealand Taskmaster started the other week. 2 episodes out there already with the third on tonight (I think). Not watched any yet but excited to have more Taskmaster to watch.

They're great! Really good cast and tasks again.

(episode 2 spoiler)

Spoiler

David's "Let there be dark" was incredible 😆
