Taskmaster

I've only recently started watching Taskmaster and have been binge watching it like crazy. I need to go watch these New Zealand ones as Mel Giedroyc, Noel Fielding and David Baddiel mean I can't watch some of the U.K ones.

They on YouTube again? If not, hopefully that Cinema firestick app has them. I'm trying to download less and less these days, cos streaming is just so much easier.

Thanks for the heads up.

They are indeed on YouTube.

You really need to put your hatred of certain comedians aside with taskmaster. You’re missing out on one of the best series there!

(episode 2 spoiler)

  Reveal hidden contents

David's "Let there be dark" was incredible 😆

Just watched that one last night, and

Spoiler

It was something I expected someone might try - David being the most likely - but even then it was surprising when it happened.

It takes a certain level of audacity, I guess.

And then to only get one point!

Taskmaster NZ is so good - so many classic moments. It's a shame about Jeremy Wells as the Taskmaster, though - he's no-longer entirely dragging down the show but he's still the worst part of an otherwise great show.

I don't mind Wells, really, though it's clear he has a very different dynamic with the contestants to Greg Davies. Where Greg's the domineering Taskmaster, ridiculing his underlings for their failures, belittling his assistant all the while, Jeremy's the guy placed into the figurehead role but commanding even less respect than Paul Williams does. He's often been the butt of jokes that'd probably only happen in the UK if the entire panel consisted of Rhod Gilbert.

I kinda like it, it's another little thread that helps give the show it's own feel, whether it's intentional or not.

Giedroyc is really funny on it. Fielding is Fielding but it works.

Baddiel is just awful in everything.

I caved and watched the Baddiel ones. Thankfully he proved himself to be as thick as pig shit so it was bearable. I just can't stoop low enough to watch Giedroyc or Fielding. And the ones featuring Jon Richardson are a definite no-go as I treasure my TV screen too much to throw a brick through it :)

Part of the joy of Taskmaster is seeing people who you don't particularly warm to/hate with every fibre of your being, thrust into uncomfortable situations which they then utterly fail to deal with, confirming your low opinion, or occasionally proving themselves to be more tolerable than you previously thought.

I don’t mind a different approach at all, I just find him aggressively unfunny and feel he’s bad at making the show flow. It’s like having a bland politician (e.g. David Cameron, Mitt Romney, or Keir Starmer) fronting a comedy show.

At least he’s not actively making worse it anymore, I just don’t think he adds much.

That's entirely up to you obvs but the series with Richardson has one of the best TM moments of all time (Joe Wilkinson throwing a potato). Ironically there's a great moment before (Katherine Ryan taking about sport) that's been entirely forgotten about in how great the scene is afterwards. Tbh that scene I'd argue is one of the greatest comedy drama moments of TV full stop. The way it swings from one emotion to another is beautifully edited together.

I hadn't watched any of the New Zealand one yet, but had no idea that Leigh Hart was on it. I would absolutely recommend checking out his other stuff as he's something of a legend over there. My brother-in-law who's a Kiwi showed me this cold and I was crying was laughter. The whole series is ridiculously funny.

EDIT: Full series is here: https://www.moonflix.co.nz/videos/screaming-reels-episode-2

I don't think I've lost it at a TV show as much as when they showed the prep work for the NZ rap battle and watching David Correos go off.

I wish this season could have gone on forever.

I was crying. The rap battle is definitely one of the top 3 tasks of all time, including the UK series!
