Started to catchup on this after stopping after episode one. Probably my least favourite series ever, but Guz is decent so I’ll stick with it.

It's not been a great series really. Not enough freedom to do stupid stuff in a lot of the tasks is the main issue I think.

Yeah I was excited by this line up when it was announced but there's not been much chemistry between them and the tasks have lacked much freedom for imagination.  Sadly I'd say it's the worst series so far, probably by a distance.  There have been lulls before though so hopefully the next series will pick things up again.

"Put up a shelf" has to be one of the most boring and laziest ideas for a task I've seen in a while too. The creative team behind the show must really be struggling by now to come up with interesting tasks.

I guess the trouble with revisiting earlier tasks is if the contestants remember the best solution.  
 

I’m not hating this the contestants are all great, I have had a soft spot for Morgana since Vic and Bobs house of fools. Alan seems like the nicest bloke on the planet, Guz is sound as is Desiree and Victoria reminds me of my sons really bossy little friend from nursery.

I think the tasks are much more at fault than the cast this season. I'm hoping it's mainly down to Covid restrictions rather than the team running out of ideas.

 

Putting up a shelf was gold compared to the "put some stuff through a pipe" task.

I doubt many of them are familiar with the tasks like the audience is. Might get one or two that vaguely remember them.

 

Think the series needs a rest for a year to recharge. They’ve churned them out constantly for a few years now, and it’s starting to show.

This is true it's been pretty much a conveyor belt since It started.

 

A rest wouldn't hurt the show at all.

The NZ version shows there's still plenty you can do in terms of task ideas without repeating them. The last two seasons also had covid complications, but they were better than this with less time to prepare for those limitations.

Yeah I think I'd agree. It's at least up there with the Bob Mortimer season.

 

They seem to be cracking down on the YT uploads but there are torrents of both seasons, or I can PM streaming links if anyone wants them. I would just put them in here but they expire if too many unique IPs access them.

 

Hopefully them cracking down on the YT uploads might be because they're going to show the NZ version on Channel 4 over here...

Also just started watching the first series of NZ after seeing it mentioned in this thread for ages. It's a lot of fun and there have been some classic tasks only 3 episodes in.

This continues to be a weak series. The tasks have been pretty poor, the solutions neither witty nor that inventive and the chemistry just isn't there between the 5. All seems rather tired. Still better than most things on TV but way below the normal Taskmaster levels.

I think they should branch out a bit more with the casting, which is still primarily comedians. The Christmas Special last year was really good, and most of the contestants for that were much more varied.

 

I’ve said it before in here but if I was an A-List movie star, I’d do two vanity projects for free - a series of Taskmaster, and ‘murderer of the week’ on Midsomer.

I'd be wary of it going too far down the "celeb" route, lest we end up with a Crystal Maze reboot situation where every episode is a bland bunch of Z-list soap actors, reality stars and athletes.

I did wonder if Peter Crouch would appear at some point after he and Alex worked together on the BBC Euros late night show over the summer.

 

Comedians are obviously a good fit for their spontaneity, but think there are plenty of good options beyond the world of comedy without things scraping the barrel. Just need people who don’t take things too seriously, and don’t mind being made to look daft.

I fear bland, mainly. There's plenty of funny people who'd be a good fit, and I think the New Year special did well on that front by getting good personalities in, particularly Rylan Clark-Neal and Nicola Coughlan.

Not been feeling this series at all. I thought I'd enjoy Victoria being on it, but she doesn't appear to be half as intelligent as I imagined she would be. I hate Alan Davis with a passion. I've no idea who the American girl is. Guz is really irritating. Why does he talk with that weird fake accent that 12 year old white boys use when they think they are some kind of black gangster rapper? But sound more like an idiotic Ali G. It makes him sound like a bell end.

 

 Morgana was the only one I liked. Didn't have a clue who she was, but she amused me.

I disagree with much of this, but that's fine. However, if you liked Morgana then maybe check out Vic and Bob's magnificent House of Fools. It's ace, supremely silly, and she's so much fun in it (small part, but absolute scene-stealer much of the time).
