Microsoft Rewards

Incidentally, with the dashboard changes recently (which added badges, a community section, etc) they also added another tier. Now it's tier 1, tier 2, and tier 2 plus Gold subscriber. That's interesting. I've got Gold, a few months of game pass free, and an O365 family sub running. I wonder when we'll see a generic "Microsoft One" type sub, which just covers all this.

Ok Yankee doodle dandy we get that you guys in the States get the cream, no need to rub it in. They seem to be on point in the U.K lately so hopefully it'll hit these shores in the not to distant and I can go from getting GP and G monthly subscriptions to getting the odd Debenhams card or a few scratch n' sniff things now and again. It's been a boon for saving me money of late. Well done MS*.

edit* Sort your fucking punch cards tho.

It wasn't my intent to rub anything in, sorry. I literally have no idea how these systems are broken down by region. There are plenty of things, for example hardware and bundles, that never make it over here, or are just inherently more expensive

Got my 5K last night too. 18k in total now - should I grab three months game pass or wait for a sale?

6 months Game Pass is currently on sale for £23.97 until the end of the month, so probably better off converting them to credit towards that.

Not seeing it anywhere, account specific perhaps?

I thought it was a general sale but it might be. Have seen some saying they don't get the offer on the xbox website but do on console. It's a game pass sale, not a rewards offer just to be clear.

Well, nice to see everyone getting the points from the punch card but MS obviously hate me because nish. Probably get them some day, might even try hurry them along with another email.

No harm in sending an email asking for an update. I sent my screen capture proof a few days back and heard nothing. So I sent an email last night asking what was happening and they replied and gave me the points this afternoon.

On US accounts (at least), there's currently a 30% off $5 or $10 Microsoft credit. It's not a one off, either. I just blew my 14k points on two $10 cards.

Deal expires Dec 15.

Yep, same for us with the 30% so 4410 points at the moment for a £5 Microsoft gift card 'til Friday. Xbox gift card, which is functionally identical, is still 5850 points. Sales so far have been dismal but I think I'm going to redeem all my points now as there must be something good cropping up over Christmas.

There's a free 500 points, plus double mobile points (up to 120 from 60) if you set your phone's browser's search engine to Bing today

And thanks to this I've managed to scrape my second account over the line for an extra fiver, thought I was just going to fall short. Will have enough points to redeem £25 on that account and £30 on my main so even worst case I'll be able to pick up something with it over the next three months.

So there's 3 search trackers: search in general, search in Edge, and mobile search. How does mobile search work? My searches in Android Edge just count as general and Edge. I briefly tried their launcher, liked it, but had a weird bug that completely broke it, so had to uninstall. I don't think searches in the search bar counted as mobile, though? And then I tried the Bing app, but I wanted links to open in Edge, not the built in browser. So I just went back to using Edge.

Not a big deal, I just couldn't figure it out. I don't think I hit my daily limit either way.

Just tried it on mine and it counts the first 4 to fill the "Microsoft Edge bonus" for the day, then moves onto filling "Mobile search". Are you definitely using Edge set to view mobile sites? If I set it to view desktop site that's the only time it'll start registering as "PC search".

So after writing a load of babble on the previous pages about what I think MS must look for for a ban, I go and get banned. I have no idea why, all my searches have made sense, none of that "popular on Bing 1,2,3,4...." I actually received my points from that troublesome punch card after supplying screens of my achievements, used them for a month of gamepass which never came through to my email and was banned 24hrs later. I don't have multiple accounts and as far as I know have done nothing to warrant the ban. I'm pretty miffed as the month of gamepass points of 6800 contained points accrued from actual purchases. Tin foil hat time, I actually subscribed and paid for GP from the day it released up until a couple of months ago when I started to use the reward points to subscribe, maybe MS want my money rather than my Bing searches. Seriously though I'll update with the reason once I get a reply. Bastard.

Edit* If I click Reasons for accounts to be suspended I get this-

It’s not you, it’s us.

Something unexpected went wrong at our end. We’ll resume service as soon as possible – try again soon to keep enjoying Microsoft Rewards. For help, please contact Customer Support.

Though clicking my rewards account gives me this-

Unfortunately, it appears that your Microsoft Rewards account has been suspended.

This is probably because it didn’t meet one of the requirements outlined in the Microsoft Services Agreement.

Is the top excuse just some blurb that anyone who has a suspended account gets when clicking the reasons link or might it genuinely be some MS fuck up?

I had a read through a few pages of the Reddit, but couldn't see anything obvious. Some banned for multiple accounts, etc. I think you're probably going the right route, otherwise see if you can get someone on chat. I'm really curious what caused it.

I thought I posted in here, but it must have been in off topic. I've joined the Bing insider program. Nothing useful so far, although I had to pass a screening with questionnaire to get in. Anyway, on the insider page it mentions they're going to add American Sign Language to Bing, which is amazing. Windows 10 should be all about polish, stability, and accessibility, not nonsense new features. Keep that crap to apps.

Well Stu they've fooking took close to 10,000 points and told me it was due to having several accounts. Now dear Rllmuk on bended knee and hand on heart I can tell you honestly I've only ever had one lousy account. So where the fuck are they getting these extra accounts from? Surely they can do some sort of check and see the only points I've accrued and indeed spent match the one account. Tbh I don't give a hell about the stupid points but to be told something which is bullshit is the killer. I'm awful at putting myself across but just want to say to the rep "you what mate, I couldn't give a fuck about scamming points"

Really disappointed.

@amc that's shite, I've had accounts banned when I was running multiples (which I still am, but using different names and confirmation numbers now) but even then they merged all my ill-gained points to one account which was then reinstated. They were able to tell me which accounts it was exactly, so hopefully you can wring that out of them so you can tell them you're wrong.

I wrote a rather drunk but pretty on point email to their "case closed, several accounts" finding. I feel slightly embarrassed with how many times the word disgusted and term loyal customer have been included but it seems to have hit home with someone at their desk because I received a rather sincere reply vowing to get to the bottom of the matter for me. The only thing I can think of is owning two laptops and two Xbox consoles which I switch between from living room to bedroom, but they all use the one MS account. Oh and I do have a Onedrive account that uses a different email but have never used that for anything bar Onedrive uploads. Will update if they find anything out of use but I'm hovering over just buying 6 months of Gold and GP and forgetting about the whole rewards angle. Shame if I do really, as it was great for a couple of months.

EDIT* Update, they have reinstated my rewards account with an apology that it was a mistake at their end and gave me 1000 extra points. So looks like I'm back to the rewards slog. Happy days.

Does the "price" of rewards go up and down, then? I have about 15,000 points at the mo, should I be keeping an eye on the cost of getting Xbox credit or will it make no difference when I choose to cash in my points?

Xbox and Microsoft gift cards do get reduced from time to time. A £5 Microsoft card is normally 5,850 points, but has been reduced to 4,410 a few times. I'm not sure how often this happens though.
