Hey I’m more than happy with the Series X version, widely observed  to be the closest thing available to the high end Stadia experience :hat:

I played a PUBG session on this on Sunday evening and the whole thing was just excellent. No waiting around for the one person who inevitably needs to update to the latest patch, just straight in, 2.5 hours of gaming where all the party stuff worked seamlessly for everyone. PUBG's Cross-Play implementation is great too.

I’ve been playing Sniper Elite 4 recently on Stadia, which is an excellent game - well, I played the first level and loved it, anyway. 
 

Interstingly this is the first game where I have noticed any ‘streaming’ related issues, insomuch as from time to time I noticed a dip in the resolution before it coming back up to 4K. I am assuming this is related to it being the sort of game where you are continually zooming in with your sniper scope on something half a mile away on a massive map, then zooming out, moving, zooming in again, rinse and repeat etc.
 

I can’t say it bothered me, but it’s interesting to see if that issue is observable playing off a local machine, I imagine it wouldn’t be.

Stadia seem to be doing a referral offer where the person you refer gets an additional month free (2 months instead of 1) and the referrer gets a month free for their troubles. So if anyone's looking to try the service, hit up one of the existing members here for a referral code (seems to be accessed via the app).

I notice compression scaling on Pubg quite a bit. Whereas Cyberpunk and Doom Eternal are seamless.

 

It's odd, because Pubg is much simpler graphics. I can only assume that it's a function of the port quality in some way.

Hopefully they'll update their bundles to include the new Chromecast. Because it's better.

I got a 3 month trial with a new laptop. Only 1080p but it worked pretty flawlessly on Jedi Fallen Order. I was actually impressed. Ironic as just bought a super powerful gaming laptop really.

Weirdly, I played Pubg at the weekend for a solid session and it was totally seamless. Something has changed there for sure, either in the game or the platform because I'd say it's very hard to tell the difference between local and streaming there now.

Now they're bringing this to Shield, I should be the perfect audience for it. Don't have to turn on my pc, perfect for a quick go while not busy, lovely. But I just looked at the price plans and it's a hard nope from me. The free games are... underwhelming, and having to pay full price to buy a game to stream is ludicrous.

 

I should be champing at the bit to play this, but I'm totally turned off by the pricing model.

It seems decent value to me, I pay £9 a month (I think) and there are too many games for me to play on the ‘free’ pro sub.

 

Mind you, I don’t spend a huge amount of time playing games really - I’m playing Sniper Elite 4 at the moment and that alone will easily take up more than a month’s play. I don’t think the pricing compares well with other subscription services from what I understand, but then you need the hardware to access them.

Ping one of existing users here and you can get 2 months free Pro sub rather than the usual 1.

 

No-one can tell you what the matrix is and that. I think you'll be impressed and there's nothing to lose.

In terms of everything but the tech, XCloud is vastly superior - the library, the subscription, the versatility, the controller - and pretty soon Xcloud will also be an app on your tv or a Chromecast like dongle. Which is perfect. *Except* for the Stadia streaming tech being light years ahead. I didn't believe in streaming until I tried Stadia - and now I believe. I hope that upgrading to Series X tech will improve Xcloud significantly or else I'd rather see Microsoft licensing the Stadia tech....

 

Until then, Stadia remains the perfect showcase for proving that streaming can work.

I guess the question is, how many people who are casual enough they game via streaming are even going to notice if they do spend that actually quite large sum of money?

 

See also, YouTube's awful video quality compared to even Netflix.

I guess this must have been a streaming glitch because I’ve been playing it a lot this month and it’s been rock solid ever since. Or maybe just an issue with the first level!
