It's like Premier League Football managers doing the rounds. Same faces failing at different places. But they have experience.

Ha, I was just about to mention the likes of Sam Allardyce before I read your post! The manager merry-go-round, particularly in the Championship, is ridiculous.

If you were in a senior role at a streaming video game platform that failed, you would have some pretty good insight into what went wrong and how to make a successful one. I can see how Phil Harrison might be able to make a compelling case for being able to run Stadia by combining his experience at Sony and Microsoft with what he learned from Gaikai. You can learn a lot from failure.

That said, when you’ve presided over the number of failures that Phil Harrison has, you would also have to make the case for why none of them were your fault, but I assume he’s gotten pretty good at that now.

Destiny 2 plays great on Stadia. The "weight" of the weapons and the way the netcode works really make it feel the same as on a local console. PUBG on the other hand doesn't translate so well though despite being a really good port. There's no obvious "lag" in the PUBG input but I think because it uses client-side hit detection you get a response disadvantage compares to local console players which doesn't happen for games with server side hit detection (Destiny 2 does this in Crucible IIRC). Given that the game is intensely sweaty these days I just found myself losing more duels compared to One X which is annoying given it's a game of fine margins.

I think they need to start chucking it in with game purchases like the Cyberpunk deal.  They could have done something with Outriders which is launching on Stadia at the same time as the other formats for example.

Anyway, haven't you heard?  Google have shut Stadia down :seanr:

Anyone taking advantage of the offer today?

I've gone in. Figured the cost for a Chromecast Ultra and gamepad is justifiable, even if all I do is play that Pixeljunk thing just enough to give the world a ridiculous screenshot. Which, incidentally, is a BLOODY BRILLIANT thing that people should be making a bigger deal out of!

Also, Pacman Tunnel Battle.

Pacman seems a bit meh sadly, but then any version of Pacman that isn't CE DX has felt a bit meh since that glorious game came out.

€60 for a controller and a chromecast is a good price.  In an ideal world they'd have a bundle with the new Chromecast and a controller for like €80-90 which would be even easier to recommend.

When they announced the new Chromecast it wasn't going to support Stadia, has that changed?

The Stadia app has always been "coming in the first half of 2021" for the new Chromecast with Google TV.  I don't understand the delay, unless it also needs testing on every other Google TV device out there as well?

They also announced a Stadia app for TV's, so maybe waiting to launch it all together in one big media blitz?

I'd love that.  It's remarkable how much of a barrier it is to have to unplug the Sky box and plug the CCU in.  And yes, I probably should have got a TV with more than 2 HDMI ports....

Grid's the one game that didn't really work for me - the admittedly small input lag was enough to see me fishtail down the straights and wave at most apexes from afar.  It's fun (the kids love it) but it's frustrating to me knowing that I'd be much quicker on another platform.

Talking about the sale - I've never played an Assassin's Creed game - are Odyssey or Origins any good?  Which one should I get?

Never buy a TV with only 2 HDMI, schoolboy error!

Okay cheers guys, I’ve watched a video of Grid now too and it doesn’t look like my kind of thing really.

I’ve got some sort of 4WD racing game in my Pro sub, I should take a look at that really!

GRID has a lot of the same failings as Dirt 5 unsurprisingly.

A lack of personality through trying to have too much personality and races that are somehow too short and too long at the same time because you're either a million seconds faster or you're just going to get bashed around in a pack of 6 wide cars.  Worse in GRID because it tends to then penalise you for it.

I spent far too long on that trying to get out of the starting open world area to actually do a race before realising I just had to park somewhere special to access a menu where I could then start the career.
