Why isn’t this the normal price? Surely you make the upfront cost as low as possible to get people to buy into the ecosystem?

The low upfront cost is one of the biggest selling points compared with traditional consoles - it’s mind-boggling I haven’t seen any ads or bundles that show Stadia, a Pro subscription and half-a-dozen games being the same price as a base PS5/Xbox Series X console.

I think they need to start chucking it in with game purchases like the Cyberpunk deal.  They could have done something with Outriders which is launching on Stadia at the same time as the other formats for example.

Anyway, haven't you heard?  Google have shut Stadia down :seanr:

I wish I had gotten Cyberpunk on Stadia, actually. I didn't really enjoy it anywhere near as much as I hoped, and consider it to be a bit of a waste of money. That's on a PC that is more than capable, too, it's not a hardware problem. The game is just a bit less than expectation. Had I gotten a controller and Chromecast bundled in, though, I would have considered it a bargain.

So I instead bought Stadia last week, for £53.99, which is the right kind of price for the kit. I'll happily recommend it for anyone looking to jump on board, especially if your PC isn't quite up to top-spec games. £65 for what will be very much a zeitgeist game for the first couple of months seems expensive, but that's not all you'll play. You'll make use of that 30 days Pro and see just how well it all works. You'll discover that you still love Bomberman, but you're not as dominant as you were when playing with your friends. You'll check out Pixeljunk Raiders and hate it, but then go back the next day.

And you'll eventually tell other people "You know what? Stadia is pretty good, man. Wish I'd gotten on board earlier."

Still a bargain mind you. I fancy that Resi 8, and another controller...can I sell a Chromecast Ultra on?

Although am I eligible as I already have Stadia?

I think so - I got the Cyberpunk deal despite already being a founding member.

Google just sent me the link to claim my free controller & Chromecast too!

Mine too. I've recently been playing a lot on Stadia, having not bothered to cancel my pro sub and accumulated a rather large collection of games. I figure that even if Google does a Google, I'll still be able to use the controller (which I really like) as a MiSTer USB controller.

You know, Stadia might prove to be the biggest missed opportunity in gaming. I am constantly amazed by how little I think about the streaming aspect of it. It is, to my dulled middle age senses, identical in experience to playing on a console. True, it is very much dependent on your connection, but I've got mine to a position where it is flawless across many hours of gaming, so it's no longer a concern. It's a miracle it works as well as it does, to be honest, then if you throw in things like instant delivery and no patch time, it's perfect for someone like me.

But nobody can get past the "Google-ness" of it. Thanks to the reputation Google have built themselves over the last decade, nobody treats it like a serious long term contender. Even me, and I'm convinced by the technology behind it. So no matter how technically proficient it is, no matter how convenient the experience, it will never be taken seriously. And when you consider such blunders as shutting down your first party studio (meaning no games will ever really take advantage of the unique Stadia features) and dumping your top execs, it feels like it was always doomed to fail.

My "it'll never happen" idea is that Google need to come out and guarantee games bought on the store for five years or more. If they shut down, you get your money back. Even that might not be enough, but I suspect they've sold so few games so far, it'll hardly cripple them financially.

Yes, I agree with all that. Perfect experience, and it always amazes me when I read on here people talking about noise from consoles, etc - Stadia is invisible in the home, games are just there.

I guess I don’t really care about the range of games, as I don’t play enough to be impacting my pile of pro games faster than they are currently adding new ones, and I strongly suspect if they stopped now I wouldn’t finish that pile anyway. If you want to play everything or specific games it’s certainly not for you, but if you have a casual interest it’s amazing.

If they turn off the service I don’t think I’ll be too bothered, but it will be such a shame  - it feels like this is how gaming will be in the future when everyone has a decent connection, no hardware needed or necessary.
