So I don't need to buy a Pro for it then?

It's great on the standard PS4, and in my opinion the whole "you need a pro for VR" is bollocks.  I've seen some improvement on the Pro, but VR is like turning everything up to 11 and PS Pro makes it go up to 12 or 13.  It's an improvement but not worth spending that money on just for the VR impact.

I’m running through mopping up the chaps I missed before and at times this looks incredible, I’m not sure if having it on supersampling when using old telly affecting what games looked like in VR but suddenly the game just looks much better esp around levels 4 & 5 so no idea if Pro makes much of a difference but either I’m used to VR and stuff looks great or I am seeing a difference now!

Easily my GOTY and probably the only 3D platformer I’ve ever played that rivals Nintendo’s output

I'm man enough to admit that 5-1 of Astrobot was so overwhelmingly charming and splendid - the music, the environment, the pure feeling of co-operation between myself and Astro, that I welled up not once but twice, like I was experiencing something beyond my years, like i hadn't earned it yet. A truly magical piece of software. VR purchase completely and utterly validated.

My wife has been pulling me up for going, "I'm coming little mate!" and, "There you go!" out loud, when I save one. I can't stop myself saying it out loud, getting emotionally invested is part of the game, for me :)

5-1 was my particular favourite. :)

Just finished the main campaign now. Glorious, easily my favourite VR experience. I don't think I've ever played a platformer slower either, taking ages to stop and inspect little nooks and crannies. It's just a constant joy throughout, adored it.

That being said, I had some trouble with the VR headset, so could never get a completely clear picture. Definitely one to return to and replay when there's a V3 headset.

That’s weird, I’d say it’s one of the cleanest games in terms of image quality on PSVR (the art style is really well chosen).

I had, and posted in this thread, real issues with Astro bot being blurry and have no idea what fixed it  bit something happened and suddenly it became pretty stunning to look at with clean gfx but a lack of AA - maybe concentrating on that affects the IQ your brain is reporting!?

Other folk have mentioned it, and I find it to be true too - to get a really clear picture I find the backstrap of the headset needs to sit higher on your head than you'd expect. If I have the headset where it feels natural, the image is blurred. With it a tad lower than I'd like (i.e. with the backstrap a bit high) it's pretty much crystal. If that doesn't help then maybe you need to readjust the settings...

Cheers, will try and see if it helps. I think it´s my eyes rather than the headset, unfortunately. I have one eye stronger than the other, and have never been able to get a clear picture on any VR headset. Definitely something to experiment with before jumping into the challenge levels.

Also, double check there is no protective layer you need to remove on the lenses of the headset. I have no first hand experience, but when I googled around for info about the headset I saw some posts on I believe reddit where users had a protective layer on the lenses that caused fuzzyness.

Just to add to this, if you have protective film on the lenses (some do, some don't) please be aware that it is very obvious that there is film there.  I know people who have scratched their lenses trying to tell if there is a protective film on or not, but trust me, it's very obvious film.  If you're not sure, you definitely don't have it.

Finished up the final boss and grabbed the platinum earlier (almost immediately, as I'd been doing the challenges steadily as I went through the game).

Just a sheer joy from beginning to end. I think that when a game has you

Spoiler

laughing and engaged with the credits of all things

then the love, enthusiasm, and humour with which it has been crafted is pretty clear. The bosses were probably the best I've encountered, certainly in terms of a consistently brilliant set, and the continuous flow of new and evolving ideas is pretty much unmatched too. Can't wait to see what they do next.

While I don't score games to influence their metacritic rating (this would be terrifyingly dishonest and I spit on any outlet that does so), I did note with some pleasure that my own score tipped it up from 89 back into the 90's. Normally I wouldn't give a shit, but Astro Bot is pretty freaking low on the metacritic scale given how much pure, unbridled joy it's given nearly every single person who's played it. Especially compared with something like Red Dead 2 which has... a 97?... and has actively bored pretty sizable numbers of its player base.

My text snippet was pretty good too. 'Frankly, if Astro Bot isn’t my favorite game this year, I’ll not only eat my hat, I’ll roam the lands eating every hat I come into contact with — it’s that damn good, and the definitive argument for owning a PSVR headset.'

I once heard someone on the radio argue that Lennon/McCartney were not genius songwriters; they were just greedy as they used up all the simplest hooks and didn't leave anything on the table for their peers.

That quote is what comes to mind when I think about this game and the possibility of a sequel. Every stage has a simple, obvious yet amazing hook to it, which is used briefly and then left behind. I'm not sure a sequel would have anywhere to go.

Been dipping into this on and off since it came out and I think I've got 3 stages left and about half the challenges to go (some to find and some to get 2 bots on). Looked through the trophies and I've got about 20 left to go! Seems like a lot given how much of the content I've found, but I'm determined to get Platinum on this beautiful game.

This came through the door today - my nephew is obsessed with the Playroom VR minigames, and ever since they patched in an Astro Bot promotion at the end of Robot Rescue it's been hard to avoid...so I ended up trading in some old stuff and picking it up. As for whether I'll have a chance to play it myself... ;)
