Microsoft Cloud Gaming - coming to Samsung TVs

I tried Halo 5 first, and although the lag wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be, I kept getting sound glitches, and trying to spot enemies on a tiny phone screen isn't particularly easy.

So switched to Tales of Vesperia and it was just like playing on a console. Really impressive.

Not really, that's more equivalent to the Xbox SmartGlass stuff, where you were using your console to stream to a phone, this modern streaming thing is from datacentres.

I think Xbox Console Streaming is streaming from your own Xbox. xCloud is from Stadia like streaming.

@JPL at a guess:

Its a proper beta, you have to apply and started with 3 games, has now got 50.

they are being open that its not ready for consumers yet.

Its free, just have to be an XBL subscriber.  the xcloud pricing hasnt been announced.

Microsoft have put a lot of work into regional datacentres so i suspect this will help the feel of it.

Its only a compliment to their whole gaming offering.

ive no idea, im on iOS so patiently waiting to try it!

How come this seems to be getting a bit of praise, but Stadia is being slated? They’re using the same technology, aren’t they?

I think part of the problem is Stadia has been released unfinished with missing features and a ridiculous pricing model for games.  Combined with poor image quality (Destiny 2 1080p medium settings upscaled to 4k).  The product being shipped does not equal the promises made by Google.

On the other hand MS has been quite cautious about X-Cloud.  Even at X019 Phil Spencer said it will take years for the technology to get there.  As an additional feature X-Cloud compliments owing a physical Xbox - especially now it will be tied into Games Pass.

I've yet to try Stadia, but I did get into X-Cloud's preview this week and was impressed at what it is achieving in this early state.

The cost to *use*/*run* things on xcloud hasn't been announced.

I'm pretty certain they announced it was included in gamepass on X019.

Edit:

https://www.theverge.com/2019/11/14/20964434/microsoft-xcloud-preview-ps4-controller-windows-10-support-2020

"Microsoft is planning to integrate Project xCloud with Xbox Game Pass next year, allowing players to stream games from the company’s subscription service direct from the cloud."

So integrated in some way or another, but not announced how.

I had misunderstood the initial announcement, hence that line.

Still, wouldn't surprise me if it is something like:

Game Pass games: Stream from xcloud with GP sub.

Owned Games: Stream from your console free. (This was specifically mentioned at e3. Stream from your own console over the net free)

Owned Games: Stream from Xcloud with sub.

@Mr Tony have you spent much time playing it out of interest?

6 or 7 games on gears, played a bit of Forza Horizon 4. F1 2019 wouldn't load for me. I need to give it another shot.

I have a 72mb connection that normally sits around 50ish and it seems alright. Sound breaks up a lot, and the stream pixallates a lot too, but when it runs smooth, it's fantastic.

Jeff G and Spencer spoke about this during their 2nd Nite interview, and Spencer said that Console Streaming (~Switch functionality) is free, but there is going to be some kind of cost to using xCloud.

Ive timestamped the moment where they talk about cost

They also talk about Stadia and Sony a bit, and xCloud on the Switch.

Xcloud is 720p, Stadia is 4k (ish) - maybe causing more issues.

Presumably MS are planning on closing this though? I mean, if streaming is solely about playing on the bog it's not really that compelling.

The audio lag on this is worse than the video lag. It's doing my head in a bit, but I've not had much of a try on it yet. Seems a polished enough experience as far as actually using it goes so far though, wasn't expecting there to be such a large bunch of playable games (even if I'm not interested in most of what's there) thought it'd just be what I owned or something.
