I can always send it back to the fella, but rather it was resolved by a quick fix! they dont even make the firmware available on their site.

They've never updated it beyond the v1.0 it comes with, so I assume they've never seen the point in uploading it.

They helped me resolve the issue, it is down to a single pin not being grounded on my cable so it was outputting sync on composite. I have basically gone

Mega sg > hdmi > dac > HD15-Scart > Sync Separator (Scart to HD15) > HD15 to BNC > TV

This makes it RBG with separate sync, a bit convoluted but it works and I don't have to import a monoprice cable. I think later ill replace the sync Separator with a Scart switch. Also another note, you cannot modify the video output with the DAC so i have to manually adjust my TV to get it align / hide the borders.

Pin 10, I already own the RGC hd15 to scart cable (that's what I'm using) but my PVM-2950Q does not accept scart, only BNC with separate sync.

All sorted, I was eventually going to get a scart switch I guess it might be a bit earlier than expected.

I've caved in and got a Mega SG and a Super NT (along with a SD2SNES) on their way to me.

I was going to jailbreak the Mega SG as I can then play all the games (except for Virtua Racing I believe), and as I cannot geet hold of a MegeEverdrive Pro for love nor money!.

Anyone have any advice on what settings to start with, or it just a matter of plug and play?

Any other nuggest of useful info will be appreciated.

the beauty of the mega SG is threefold

1 It looks like a Megadrive - excellent design

2 It will play your megadrive and mastersystem carts out of the box

3 It's very easy to set up, plug and play out the box if you want to.

If you want to delve deeper, check out some online guides on what are the best options to choose for scanlines etc

Do this after you jailbreak, as the update erases your settings

My display settings for both consoles, which I know some other forumites have used with success:

I can dial in my preferred Mega SG/Super NT graphics settings in two minutes, it’s not hard. 4x or 5x integer scale, preset width settings for 16:9 screens, x interpolation enabled, y disabled, hybrid scanlines with 128 depth, gamma 1.04.

They’re not FirebrandX perfect, but they look great and take a quarter of the time to set. Life is too damn short.

Oh, and set the power LED to red - that's the most important one.

As mentioned in the quote above, FirebrandX does "perfect" graphics guides but they take forever to dial in. When you lose them with every firmware update, quick-and-good is the ticket for me. What I haven't tinkered with much is the Mega SG sound options, as I honestly don't know where to begin, and it's a huge, subjective can of worms anyway.

Damn you!

I've just bought a SD2SNES REV X from ebay because I hadn't considered the SpecialFX support.

This forum is costing me so much money 😆

  • 1 year later...

With the discussion about the DUO being a little hot atm, Has there been any jailbreaks for the latest firmwares for this and the Super NT?

The latest jailbreak firmwares for both the Super NT and Mega SG there are fully up-to-date with the latest official firmware for both available from Analogue. There have been no firmware updates for either system in quite some time.

There were firmware updates for both (and more) earlier this month:

Oh man, apologies! I stand corrected. I had it in my head to check for firmware updates a few weeks ago for both consoles and found I was already on the latest versions. I'd just assumed it had all come to an end... but I guess not!

Shame there isn't a Jailbreak release yet to match those. It doesn't normally take long for them to appear though.

No problem! Analogue has a bad habit of saving all of their firmware updates to be released on the same day, so they're easily missed. No idea why they do that as it makes me think that they prioritise announcements over a continual level of support, leaving users to put up with bugs for longer.
