Star Trek: Lower Decks

Just goes to show they need to go back to this era. Stop jumping it into the distant past of Kirk and co or the far flung future of Picard. Come back to what works and expand, this episode shows its doable. Give us Trek back! Or let these writers take over Discovery

Just got round to watching the finale. That was excellent, and honestly a better bit of Trek TV than some of the older shows.

If I had one criticism, it's that it was the first episode of Lower Decks that I think really could have done with being 45 minutes long like the old shows.

The pace was almost breakneck as it tried to fit in character development, sense of threat, overcoming odds, bits of foreshadowing for later and a bit of rug pulling, all crammed into 30 minutes. The voice actors even had to talk faster than normal. Give it another 15mins and everything can breathe.

Just went on a S1 binge. I hesitated watching it before because yes... it's a cartoon, so I didn't see it as a proper Trek. But I've had the best time watching Star Trek for years - over a decade even. Just light hearted, non stop action with tight compact writing. Vs the gradual loss of hope I get after watching each Picard. Onto S2 tomorrow!

That S2 finale, WOW!

Episode 9 was so good too - that epilogue 🤣

2.17 🥰

Clear action you can follow and understandable stakes. Plot moving along too with 3 distinct ship/plots coming together. Picard and Discovery could earn a lot.

OK. You fuckers convinced me this was worth watching.

And it is!

Genuinely star trek type scenarios and some actually good jokes that aren't just dick and fart jokes or the kind of bad "humour" you got when data tried to be a comedian or various ferengi episodes.

The characters are generally good, I really like extra angry bajoran security officer, another good doctor, I like the captain and her whole deal about being a second protocol ship.

Riker and troi in this somehow seemed a lot more like their actual characters than they did in Picard, even though this is an exaggerated (and silly) version of him really, it definitely tracks better than his Picard incarnation for the brief times he shows up.

It's good.

I'm still not sure whether I'm going to risk strange new worlds just yet though, might wait for the first few episodes just in case.

You’ve got season 2 of this to do yet.  Slight dip at the start but gets better as it goes along.

Back on 25 August in the US. Looks like it'll still be on Prime over here rather than Paramount+. I don't know when it's starting here, but I think season 2 was the following day.

A somewhat familiar poster

And in case anyone isn’t following the Strange New Worlds thread, Boimler and Mariner are going to show up in SNW S2

Also, that musical sting at the end of the trailer...

Just about to watch the S2 finale.

Love this just as much SNW. It just gets better and better.

Lovely to hear Jeffrey Combs but I have to say episode 9 was as good as any past trek I've seen. Cracking telly.

Really looking forward to the crossover episode.

I know at times this show is reference heavy but I do love that.

One of my favourite moments is when

Spoiler

Q turns up and they basically say "we haven't got time for your bullshit Q" and that's it. When you consider all the shit he put Picard through and all they did was tell him to get lost and it worked 😂

Also - "Shaka, when the walls fell" was a particular highlight too.

I'm gonna rewatch them before season 3.

My faves

Spoiler

Get me out of here Mariner, they keep showing me lights

I also love all the radiation victims rolling around like Pike. Kills me everytime they pop up

When they first teased that I wasnt sure if they'd be 'in-character' or just cameos as someone else, but by the sounds of it I'm assuming more ST timetravel shenanigans. Looking forward to the nonchalant 'yeah by our time it's weird to NOT have timetravelled at some point in your career.....finally I can add it to my CV'.
