Star Trek: Lower Decks

I don’t like how Beckett sounds like she’s shouting all the time, she has a very irritating line delivery style. Some eps of s2 have been great, though. I like how Boimler isn’t completely useless but actually very good at his job…for the most part. The training exercise in particular was very fun.

Really enjoyed that episode. Really feels like the show has found its feet now.

Lots of nice touches, like the

Also, were the pakleds taken from a live action episode, and if so were they as dumb in that?

Spoiler

Yes, the Samarian Snare episode from TNG. And yes, they are pretty dumb, although Lower Decks seems to have dialled this up to 11.

Am I mistaken, or was most of the stuff on the Klingon ship from Star Trek VI? I feel like even some of the music that played came from it

I really enjoyed this weeks episode. When it dials down all the wacky, references or fourth-wall breaking a bit and goes for actually using characters in an in-universe story it's when the show is at its best.

Spoiler

Pakleds are still a bit too much of a joke.

Loved the shot of crew getting caught short in their renaissance fair holodeck costumes and running back to their duties.

Looks like the Vulkan might be joining the regular cast. Hopefully the Klingon will too as they were both great.

I'm starting to accept now the exaggerated traits of various characters and aliens in the show - it's a common thing to be fair with animation, so it kind of makes sense to do that in this show seeing as it's a comedy, even if the Pakleds are a bit much

Very unexpected story given previous weeks, but yeah proper Trek. A clearly defined sci problem/anomaly (and a localised one, not a universe ending one. Looking at your Discovery)  with a decent solution with nice character beats (and horny dolphins) along the way,

Hilarious and a massive shame. Lower Decks is proper old school Trek and I love it. Any idea how well it's doing? I don't mind Discovery as much as everyone else seems to, but if it had the same tone as Lower Decks I'd like it approximately 1000% more.

What's the Family Guy guy's show? And is it available anywhere legal?

The Orville.
They tone down the knob jokes after the first couple of episodes and it delivers proper TNG style stories. You can imagine some of the lines being delivered by Riker or Data very easily.

I've just finished watching the first series of The Orville and it takes about half a dozen episodes to really settle down but it is so, so good once it gets into its groove. A proper love letter to TNG.

Apparently the second series is even better, I'm very much looking forward to continuing with it.

That was very good. The central plot could have been a TNG episode and the shorter run time means that things move along with a lot of energy. They even managed to get some feelz in there.

After the first series being a wacky comedy they have dialled down the characters' more 'zany' attributes and it has paid off. The bridge crew have been fleshed out more, and the crew is feeling more like a team than a bunch of characters doing one-liners.

It’s been renewed for season three, no idea past that.  Hope it runs.

that sums it up for me, so many times trek has tried to have this utopian view of an ultra cultured future - everyone appreciating classical music, taking part in plays etc etc. its a few too many steps away from reality (unlike tom and b'elanna watching tv) and that's where lower decks takes the piss out trek brilliantly. the scene of cleaning the holodeck waste in S1 was a brilliant little dig, mariner kicking ass at the ridiculous blind folded martial art of Anbo-jyutsu. I really enjoy all the subtle little digs in this show that take the piss out of some of the ridiculous things trek has tried to pass off as a vision of future society
