Just received my sub copy, as always bang on release date. Shame the postie decided to tear up a corner of the front cover though!

@ianinthefuture Can’t stress how much I enjoy the mag Ian. Great covers, content and the subscription service is excellent. Really hope the mag goes from strength to strength this year. 😊

Thank you, that's very kind of you to say. We're sort of siloed off from the world each month making it, so very pleasant to come up for air and see things like this.

Long may the mag continue. Just to spite whoever it was that said they gave it six months.

A bit late, but issue 59 released.

Eagle-eyed readers may notice one small detail from this issue: it's my last one. I've since moved on to Other Things. I'll genuinely miss the mag, it was really good fun to help put together for... good god it was three-and-a-bit years. But new challenges, and all that. (this does also mean I'm likely not going to be updating here, mostly because I'll completely forget to given it won't be a constant, daily thing for me)

Thanks for all the support, but given the mag is still going: carry on supporting it! PRINT. WILL. NEVER. DIE.

I just saw the news this morning, very sad to see another print pub I worked on disappear. They tried everything they could, but it's incredibly difficult to get a break-even foothold these days, and I assume it just became untenable. Even giving it away wasn't good enough.

A great mag, one I'm proud to have helped set the tone on, and another for the pile of print could-have-beens I've worked on. I look forward to seeing what this 'evolution' is, though I worry it'll be exactly what Play did: a PDF-only version.

Yeah, very sad. I did my first review for WF (thanks, Ian) and contributed to most of the issues, and it was a great means of covering some indie games in particular. Hopefully it can transform into something good.

No probs. Was genuinely happy with how many people I was able to give assorted firsts to. Some didn't work out, but plenty did - and it was ruddy gratifying as a result.

Urgh, that’s a real shame, really enjoyed the magazine. Hope those working on the magazine will be ok.

Just a heads up for any print subscribers, I had a sub until Aug next year and spoke with Raspberry to see what will happen. They will be sending out letters or emails to subscribers in due course with details of refunds. Always find the staff there very helpful and quick to answer.  They are miles ahead of Future Publishing when it comes to customer service. Hope it all works out.

Such a shame it is closing, am/was a subscriber but get that it probably didn't sell enough to keep going.

Loved the enthusiasm of the title, the focus on indie and all the coding and development content.

Received a refund cheque in the post yesterday with a covering letter on my remaining sub. The customer service was always top notch and even in a situation like this, they are still top notch. Wish everyone all the very best with the online format, gonna miss the magazine very much.

It's run by Raspberry Pi, and while there are issues - there are with every company - I can safely say it's one of the most genuine, honest, and friendly places I've ever worked.

And to go on a mild tangent, I left Wireframe to go to another job For The Money, and regretted every second of it. Chunky pay rises are no substitute for a great working atmosphere... or for getting paid on time. Or for getting paid at all. Ahem.

I've been reading this on Readly, and as I'm constantly behind I've only just found it that it has ended.

What's the next best multi format magazine? I also read edge but it is miles behind covering the "indie" scene.

I'd argue there is no equivalent.

Edge is probably the only mainstream games magazine i think has recently engaged with developers at a level beyond the dull promotional sense. Actual discussions about how games are made. Although even then I think Edge horribly undersells and skirts the issue.

What Wireframe did was, imo, important and useful. More gamers, or at least those who might consider themselves enthusiasts, beyond just playing big releases, should take the time to understand how and why games work. They'd have a much better idea of what is interesting or new.

Its hard to find good content of that ilk though.

Happy to be corrected but I think there are only four print gaming magazines left in existence now sadly. Edge, Retro Gamer, Play and PC Gamer.  So per above, Edge is your only option.

I don't know if anyone's noticed, but Wireframe has relaunched online, under the umbrella of Why Now Gaming: https://whynowgaming.com/

I was actually in the process of writing a feature about Alien/Aliens games for the magazine when it closed, so it's good to see it appearing online now:
