Wireframe - a new gaming magazine (yes, on real paper)

Hi Just got my sun renewed for the 12 issue thing. Not sure I’m gonna keep it past that. Does anybody know a link to cancel online? I had a quick look but couldn’t find anything.

Still pondering. Need to actually sit down and read some.

@Yiggy I’m in the same position. I hate these auto renewal subscriptions. More so when they don’t even send an email warning you about it. They don’t engender good will with these sort of tactics.

I also had a look at their manage subscription link which unsurprisingly doesn’t include a cancel sub function, that I can see at least. Again, another black mark.

Does anyone know if there’s a way to cancel the auto renewal online or is it going to require contacting them personally?

Mails do go out telling people their subs are coming up for renewal, though these might not have arrived if you've opted out of receiving mails or if they fall prey to a spam filter etc. But I assure you they are sent out. I don't think Raspberry Pi is the sort of company that engages in anything underhanded.

Also in the name of the subscription it actually says 'auto renew', not sure how much clearer it can be there.

Cancellation link is there as posted above, and remember the mag is available as a free PDF if you want to glance in but can't/won't pay. No fuss on my end, we just want folks to read. http://wfmag.cc/issues

Yes, same here. I didn’t receive any notification that I was going to be billed another £20. And I’m receiving bucket loads of promotional emails.

I’ve clicked through to the site and I can’t find any cancel subscription button/section either.

Really not happy about it. I’m not claiming it’s anything underhand but it does look incompetent.

My debit card runs out before the next sub will be due anyway so I’ll just leave it until the sub fails.

I didn't get an advance warning notification email either, and I would agree that that should really be sent out regardless of marketing email preferences. I'm happy to keep subbing anyway mind.

It's definitely there, but it's a bit obscure if you're viewing on mobile. The "product" box doesn't flow its text properly, so you have to actually scroll the text in the box to see the option on the right. It's much clearer if you're viewing on a desktop.

I didn't receive an e-mail either. I suggest that e-mailing people who have opted out of receiving marketing e-mails is a better step than simply charging them £20. Not pleased.

I'll pass that on about emails not going out, as it's not what I've been told. Bear in mind I write the magazine, I don't work for the company handling subscriptions and associated logistics, so I'm just going on what people tell me.

We won't never have a big/known game on the cover (I'd argue issue 2 already did that with Phoenix Point), but it is liberating to be free to put stuff there we just think is interesting.

Very different to how things were run at Certain Other Companies. But that's another rant for another day.

I've only just noticed I was billed £20 for another sub too. I didn't opt out of marketing either. Its not that you didn't get the email - there was no email.

I've been really enjoying this magazine. I subscribed not too long after gamestm ended (although that magazine had been a cost-cutted shell of its former self for years).

I like the enthusiasm and that it really does have a different voice and perspective compared to other games media. It takes advantage of its format in a way no other magazine has in years.

The pico 8 stuff in the last issue was great, the one before sold me on heavens vault which I wouldn't gave given a look at otherwise. New copy arrived today, looking forward to reading.

Are you allowed to give any indication @ianinthefuture as to how happy those behind the magazine have been with its performance since launch?

It's a brave move putting out a new print magazine these days, and I'm hopeful it's been well received.

They've not really said much, for the simple reason it's still early days. When we've been running a year, so November, they'll have a better idea of how things are faring so I'm sure they'll tell us more.

And when they do, I won't say anything because I'm probably not allowed to.

We're unlikely to be closed down any time soon. I need to find the guy who said 'I give it six months' because it's been seven now.

I once said Retro Gamer wouldn’t get past issue 34 and I was working on it at the time. I’m clearly an idiot

Good luck with it all mate. I’m sure you’ll be fine.

You overshot your target by a fair few then, hah. I'll be happy when we get to 34, ecstatic when we get to 200-odd (I can't remember what you're up to)

To be honest, that second last line was all I really needed to hear. Really enjoying reading it, and was hoping that it wasn't going anywhere.
