My favourite scene may not be what you're expecting:

Syril and Dedra's budding sub/dom fascist love story is one of the funniest, most disturbing, and incredible things, and I was watching that scene where they are cramped together in that store room with a mixture of revulsion and glee.

Spoiler

I loved that scene. Dedra showing vulnerability. Denise Gough Is such a great actress, and how her voice almost breaks when she shouts Youuuuu?!?! was quite moving.

I hope they become a couple that ends up having obedient space-fascist babies, but I do believe one is going to end up killing the other. I think one of them, Syril, is going to end up being disillusioned when he discovers that the empire isn’t about law and order, but corruption and evil.

How do you think Disney feel about having a murder-suicide scene to cap things off?

So instead of thinking "Look for the guy in the orange hat" he now thinks "Look for the guy in the blue hat". How does that help? :sherlock:

It's like with names, if you're scanning down a long list of names it's much easier to spot your own than someone else's. It's the same with hats. 🤔

You know what I loved about this?

Spoiler

No random "hiding" Jedi, no links to the Skywalkers, no eye rolling call backs to the films apart from the end credits sequence. It enjoyed being its own thing with out having to wank itself furiously for the "fans"

Oh and

Spoiler

No fucking Tatooine

Rewatching this with daughter (17). We loved The Mandalorian, but I have spared her BoBF and Kenobi.

Wow, this is just wonderful to watch for the second time. Actual actors actually acting, and just beautiful world-building cinematography.

We have just finished "Announcement", which is a great setter-upper episode, but my standout visual moment has to be

Spoiler

the reveal of the first K2 droid loping up the beach at Thornton Cleveleys, when you realise he's carrying 2 unconscious perps.

I’m only a handful of scenes into episode one and I’m already really interested in finding out who these characters are and what’s going to happen to them. Rimmer’s in it!

Finally some good Star Wars.

That you’re in from the start is good news - it’s an upwards trajectory from here :)

As I said in the "Rate the Last Series..." thread, I thought this was absolutely brilliant.

I'm not a massive Star Wars fan, I've recently watched A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back and thought they were both decidedly average. I rated the 3/5 and 2/5, respectively.

However, the Star Wars universe is really well realised and this has really added to it. No Jedi,no handwaving force powers, no weird comedy aliens. Just people's struggles against the evils of the Empire.

It was just brilliant through. Great plot, acting, scenery, effects, everything. One of the best series I've seen in a while.

I stand by those scores.

The acting in A New Hope is bad throughout, Mark Hamil in particular is awful, and there's a good few bits that don't make sense - particularly around the force. I actually found Empire Strikes Back to be fairly dull throughout, my son was clearly bored as well. Watched Return of the Jedi this afternoon and reckon it's the best of the original trilogy (despite the musical bits that have been wedges in).

It's funny, I was a huge Star Wars fan as a kid. I had tonnes of the toys and could recite the dialogue from A New Hope word for word at one time. Even though that didn't really carry through to adulthood, I expected to have a real nostalgia and affinity for the films I watched back then. Turns out I just don't like them anymore. I have really enjoyed The Mandelorian and this, though.

I would actually agree with that but only because it caught me at the perfect time, when I was just the right age and at the peak of my Star Wars mania.

Nothing beats the Imperial shuttle, speeder bikes and scout walkers for impact on a small child, not even AT-ATs.

You are allowed to change your opinion when you grow up though.

Nope. Empire Strikes Back is the worst because it's not got a Death Star in it and also doesn't end properly.
