And out of left field comes an MMO by the guys that made ARK.

ATLAS: The ultimate survival MMO of unprecedented scale with 40,000+ simultaneous players in the same world. Join an endless adventure of piracy & sailing, exploration & combat, roleplaying & progression, settlement & civilization-building, in one of the largest game worlds ever! Explore, Build, Conquer!

A couple of things put me off this ... keywords early access and survival Im not sure how many trees I can face chopping down any more. But it has two major attractions for me, it's being touted as having an EVE online style server setup so 40-50k players in the same instance. And its sandbox not theme park.  So im watching with interest and will probably dive in on launch day to give it a go. I'm a bit "meh" about pirates, the current theme of the day but it does look like a lot of fun!

There is a bit of footage and info in this video (if you can cope with his pronunciations )

Not fussed about the pirate setting, but if they can get the Eve like side of things right with people having to work together then it could be amazing.  I'm sure it will also be very shonky.

Day 1! @Sie @Scruff

Looks like a re-purposed ARK engine, complete with ultra low frame rates, huge system requirements and permanent PvP which you know I hate.

It says MMO, of course I'll be there day one!

It has PVP and PVE servers so you can avoid PVP entirely if you want.

I'm torn on this one myself. If it's like EVE then I'm all in. The risk of a proper PVP environment with safe areas you can do your own thing would be perfect, especially for the setting.

But if it's like ARK where if you aren't on 24/7 you get ganked and your base raised to the ground , then no.

Just imagine spending 7 hours building a ship (taming a spinosaurus) only to have someone burn it (kill it) when you're not there :(

Haha i felt a stab of Rage just remembering that. Yeah I'll be going PVE if you have to secure yourself when you sleep etc.

The PCgamer article made it sound a bit more like a cross between Eve and Ark. Get involved with a big guild/alliance/whatever and then there will be less risk of your stuff getting destroyed when you're not online. Much like in Eve, if you tried to settle in nul sec with a small gang then you won't last long before you get kicked out.

No promised gameplay trailer and then delayed again until the 21st.

If this isn't a complete dumpster fire on arrival, I will be very surprised.

New extended trailer up tho, and it looks great!

*edit*

This is by the Ark devs so aren't we all expecting it to run like dogshit? I can play Warframe in 4k/60 on my PC but Ark makes it shit itself :)

Although I'm always interested in a new MMO.

Oh yes! Full of jank and bugs is pretty much guaranteed. They have said somewhere that the game already runs better than Ark currently does. We shall see though! Some streamers are meant to have access today so we might actually get an idea of whether their promises are actually true.

Did you see the state of their Ark port for Switch? It's a disgrace. I'm certainly going to wait for opinions first. And there's Warframe consuming my life at the moment. :)

This is pretty much guaranteed to be a shitshow when it finally appears and waiting for opinions or for the launch issues to blow over would be sensible! Still going in day 1 though.

If I wasn't balls deep in Warframe I'd probably be joining you. Maybe not on day 1 since the servers will be on fire but maybe day 2
