Herogasm has been mentioned billions of times in every Boys article.

it’s been mentioned loads of times in previews for season three. If we’re getting to the point where we’re not allowed to discuss the information publicised by the creators of the tv show, about the tv show, then it’s getting ridiculous.

particularly since broad brush character strokes aside (and not plot) the comics and tv are different beasts.

meanwhile - an interview with the creators that doesn’t mention it, but which does contain very mild spoilers up to the current episode.

(but only spoilers in the url if you’re one of those Reddit muppets who thinks Homelander is just misunderstood)

I tend to avoid information publicised by showrunners as they always do a good job of spoiling their own shows and surprises by revealing too much information that actually watching it will be more enjoyable for those not already saturated with all the "content" coming up.

But by all means everyone make up some flimsy justification for not making just a tiny bit of extra effort to use spoiler tags to preserve surprises and increase everyone's enjoyment.

The hoops people will jump through on here to be contrarian about stuff like this when they could just not be dicks about it is still frankly staggering to me.

I haven’t read the books and have no idea what herogasm is beyond the implication. The social media hype around it is infectious.

Spoiler

I think people are being more than a little bit too precious when it comes to spoilers in this case. Surprises are being preserved regardless and enjoyment is being curtailed by the hype train police.

I think some people are too stupid to realise their belief system is being skewered by a show until it's extremely on the nose or says culture war key words out loud. When they do realise they're being called out, they then decide that politics has no place in TV shows and the woke agenda must be stopped. It's always "a show mustn't have a political message I disagree with" thinly veiled by "keep politics out of muh TV shows!"

Yeah absolutely. And aside from the alt-right side of things, I think The Boys is also trying to highlight the fascistic undertones of the superhero concept, which is often angrily reacted to by otherwise progressive fans of the genre.

How on earth can anybody following this programme arrive at the conclusion that Homelander is "cool"? The derangement stemming from his unstoppable power is the central premise of the show. It's like Breaking Bad fans who believe that Walt is a hero.

Something I was wondering about Ryan in the show, is why don’t they make more use of him? I know he’s too young to fight Homelander, and putting him in a lab to be poked and prodded would just make another Homelander, but as their powers seem largely comparable you could do some pretty useful, non-invasive tests.

For example, everyone always seems to be worried if Homelander can hear them when plotting, so just test the limits of Ryan’s sense of hearing. Homelander can tell if two people have been together (I know that was probably because sex was involved, but he may be able to tell regardless) so test the limits of Ryan’s sense of smell. Is there an odour that overwhelms him and leaves him unable to smell anything else? Is it something someone may naturally come into contact with?

Of course, knowing the CIA they’ve probably already conducted such tests but are just sitting on the data/using it for their own potential benefit.

I’d never heard of that herogasm thing until reading it here. I can imagine what it is, I think, but bringing it up is potentially spoiling future episodes for people who just watch the show and don’t invest the time in reading up about it, or following particular social media accounts.

Yeah, the shocking and funny stuff in the show works best when you don't know it's coming. Let's be on the safe side and use spoiler tags for those that only watch the show.

To reassure the people worried about being spoiled though: the TV show has made so many changes from the comics (all for the better I think) that most of it is going to play out in a different way to what people expect. So whilst spoilers for this show are certainly possible, it's more likely that a bunch of comic nerds will be slightly disappointed that the tasteless and morally depraved comic storylines they first think of will not feature. But instead we'll all be happy because in the place of those storylines will be something fresh, interesting and far more funny.

I would also please ask people not to post spoilers. I feel like a grandad here but I avoid trailers and social media shit for a reason. I like to enjoy a tv show or movie on its own merits without the accompanying circus beforehand.

Don’t mind afterwards obv.

Latest episode was a bit slower but still had some great moments. Loved the musical number and the Legend.

Only slight niggle is there’s a bit of an over reliance on Hughie and Starlight’s relationship beats. I guess temp V adds a new angle but it feels like we’ve had this arc with them before.

It was inevitable but almost wish the temp V wasn’t a thing. The underpowered Boys having to find ways to fight supes was part of the tension.

I think we’ve yet to see the repercussions…

Spoiler

Mr Edgar admitted that temp v wasn’t perfected, with some shortcomings to iron out. Then, in the most recent episode, Butcher briefly hallucinated: seeing Hughie as his younger brother. I suspect those side effects are only going to get worse.

After all the hype, Herogasm is probably taking 4th place in the episode, after, in no particular order,

Spoiler

Bluehawk getting dragged, the big fight and the streaming at the end.

Herogasm was changed from the comics where it's a (comics spoiler)

Spoiler

Vought sponsored corporate retreat for Supes. That publically is about training etc but is basically an long orgy

But the new setting worked well in the story. Probably as graphic (often strongly implied graphic too) as you'd get on TV.

Not sure how I felt about the episode though

Spoiler

We've had season of the villians winning. I'm not sure Starlight/MM's "there's a better way" stuff is meant to be coming off as naïve, but it is. Especially when they don't really have an alternative plan (until the end?)

The deaths in this were Supes. Nasty supes. All the (named) ones present we know are foul and murderers. It's hard to see the worry about them being collateral damage. There's mention of sex workers being there, but the focus isn't on them. So the efforts to "stop" collateral damage seemed odd given who we are told is the collataral. (Doubley so when one of the attendees is Bluestreak, and is then violently murdered when he escaped and the audience thinks "good riddance"...)

On a continuing shallow note. Hughie is peachy.

Biggest casualty of this episode:

Spoiler

MM's jacket.

Good to see

Spoiler

Homelander getting slapped around for once. And A-Train getting punched by Hughie.
