Formula One - 2019 Season

Its circulation was 16,000 and falling which is pretty bad.

But yeah, they should go out with a bang, say it ends with the christmas issue and do stuff like you suggest.

And if you make them good, those you might actually be able to sell for £10.99.

I do quite like a copy of racecar engineering, but if autosport is struggling god knows how that makes it to print.

They're not registered with the ABC but who knows.

But in general the more specialist titles are doing better, hence there's a Linux Format when there hasn't been a PC Format for years now.

Motor Sport doubles the sales of Autosport too.

I used to buy Autosport as a kid and into my mid twenties. I stopped buying it because internet but ended up going to and using their site a lot.

I should have been a slam dunk subscriber. But the features behind the wall were not enough and my disposable cash was limited. They started giving you only a few 'free' articles before popping up the subscribe link but i'd just go to Motorsport and read the very same article unrestricted.

They totally cocked up the transfer to digital. A subscription never felt 'essential'  - I could get most of the content from other sources and the pricing was too high to make it a no brainer to subscribe. Throw in an awful website design and here we are.

I have many warm feelings towards the Autosport brand and the (possibly overdue) expiration of the print copy saddened me. The way it's being done is a masterclass in how to piss off your audience. Frankly Motorsport network can go and fuck themselves. I have bagloads of empathy for the people who make the magazine, but zero for the management after this £10.99 bollocks.

I reckon Race Car Engineering has enough subscribers from within the industry, plus from loads of engineering students because of the Formula Student coverage, to keep going. AFAIK it has pretty decent distribution in the main overseas motorsport markets (USA, Japan, Australia etc.) too I guess the sales to enthusiasts make it even more viable. Certainly most motorsport offices I go into for work have RCE and Motorsport Magazine knocking around, and occasionally Autosport.

I've not read Autosport for years and mostly used to get it for the 'news' aspect which now can be sourced from multiple sources, if my case following the teams, circuits, series promoters of the racing I'm interested in. I still subscribe to Motorsport Magazine, because I enjoying the longform writing, along with RCE and also for ultra-nerd purposes Race Engine Technology.

"Weather has been the number one talking point heading into this weekend’s Japanese Grand Prix, and on Friday morning it was confirmed that Saturday’s track action at Suzuka will be cancelled due to Typhoon Hagabis, which is set to pass by the circuit.

As a result, qualifying will move to 2am UK time Sunday morning, when the weather is set to have cleared, with the race taking place at 6.10 am UK time, as planned. Saturday’s third practice session will not be rescheduled."

Bathurst is on at the same time so at least you’ll have something to watch between qualifying and the race.

This is worth a watch. It's a mini Ted's notebook about what they are having to do for the Typhoon. Puts into perspective how manic it's going to be on Sunday morning.

When I used to work at FOM, it would literally take days to build the tv compound (what we refereed to as 'the village'). There is more than just the main tv studio building, there are other huts too which the FOM staff then go into to do their normal jobs when there is no action on track. We would only be in the TV building when there were cars on track (be it F1 or any of the supporting categories). I have no idea how they are going to get it all built up in a just a few hours on Sunday morning.

To be fair, it's Japan so I'd expect it to be finished with hours to spare.
