Sorry forgot to ask one last question @SharkyOB ... Does the steam version run as well as the Oculus home version these days?

The Steam GOTY edition is 50% off so would buy from there because Oculus is still full price.  Would hold off till Oculus sales though if performance isn't going to be as good on my Rift CV1.

Yep, it's the same now.  When you run the game from Steam select 'Launch DIRT Rally 2.0 in Oculus VR Mode' and you're golden.

2 days, it seems to think it's still downloading something, have a box pop up when exiting that asks if I want to stop download and exit.

Have you tried closing your Steam client completely i.e. from system tray or a reboot.

Yeah, done a few reboots. Might have to uninstall the game and redownload it.

Update: stupid me, I had run out of space on the hdd for it to finish the update, as soon as I made some room it finished. Why Steam couldn't mention this problem I don't know.

I spent ages on the first McRae stage with the Mini last night, great fun (especially with H-shifter ^_^), I then tried the Cossie and crashed a lot!

You inspired me and I've spent the last few days learning how to heel-and-toe so I can use my h-shifter properly.  Still finding rallying a real challenge, but I'm loving track games with it.  Currently recreating GP Legends with Assetto Corsa + mods, seriously good

Nice :), I really should learn to heel-and-toe, I think I’d need to move my pedals a bit closer together though.

I thought I'd need pedals that were closer together (one of the things that's put me off before now) but it's actually fine with my Logitech G25 set, which are in fixed positions with the throttle and brake further apart than the clutch/brake.  It's actually fine though, seems much more down to getting the technique of rotating your foot correct and into muscle memory.  That's what seems to be working for me anyway.

Are you interested in Automobilista 2?  It's supposed to be releasing into a short early access phase today.

I am but it was starting to look a bit costly to get the various content that was coming up. Also the fact that it’s using the Madness Engine has put me off, especially when I start to read about the use of FFB files again. ACC, Dirt 2 and F1 are probably enough to keep me going but I’ve added it to my Steam wishlist to see what price it releases at :). Are you getting it?

Heel toe doesn’t feel right to me in a sim, no feedback through the pedals and shifter :( for me it’s the tactile feedback as much as the noise that makes it click

Plus it's kinda a dying skill in general, very few racing series cars need it anymore.

Already got it!  Yeah, it's expensive if you get everything, but the base game is discounted to £25 on Steam for the early access period.  I'll just decide whether I want the season pass further down the line.  What I've played so far seems really good btw, defo haven't felt any need to change ffb settings for my T300.  It's a shame to be put off by the engine, it does so many things so well, weather especially.

Got back into this yesterday for the first time in 6 months. Still amazing to drive :)

I spent some time with a fellow rally co-driver (which I've been doing on the side over the past 8 years) making our own pacenotes of some stages, then reading them out to each other to see if we can improve speed and mostly trust over the in-game notes. Pretty fun challenge and did actually work!

Still mostly spending time with GT Sport on Monday nights, but may do a bit more DiRT Rally 2.0 over the weekend.

Such  a shame Codemasters locked away so much content in many different DLC batches. It's a bit of a mess now, really - buying a set of 4 seasons will cost you more than just seasons 3 and 4!

Yep it’s a bit illogical but PCars left such a bad taste with me, mostly around how SMS handled it and I’m loathe to support them even indirectly. I know Reiza will support AMS2 much better though and improve the FFB which they’ve already done from what I’ve read. I am tempted to jump in during the EA.

I'm more put off by it having an EIGHTY FUCKING QUID season pass.

The base game is going to be a full price demo.  Also I read it as auto modellista and got over excited.

Have you actually looked at how much content the base game has?  Full price demo my arse.

And that's only today, there's more to be added during early access.  Reiza do not fuck about.

I've started a thread:

Can you only get credits from completing championship events or can you earn them in freeplay events?

Servers are ovbiously getting battered at the moment so can't connect to any events.

Forgive me for quoting myself from the PlayStation Plus thread but clearly I won't be the only one coming to this game for the first time this week:

PSA for wheel users - out of the box, Dirt Rally 2 is more or less unplayable. You really need to go into your wheel settings and calibrate the wheel, and the option to do so is well camouflaged.

Go to the controller selection screen and you should see two entries at the top left - your DualShock and your wheel. You can click on the name of the wheel with X to bring up some pages of settings - however calibrate isn’t one of them! Instead you need to press Triangle. The icon is there but it’s all the way at the opposite corner of the screen where you probably wouldn’t look.

In the calibration screen it tells you to turn your wheel to full lock. Don’t do that. Instead turn it to about 135° (if your right hand starts at 3 o’clock, bring it round left to about 10 o’clock) then click through. It’ll then ask you to set 90° and this one should actually be at 90.

This way you can keep both hands on the wheel and get a decent amount of steering input. On the default settings the car just will not turn unless you crank the wheel round and round like you’re doing three-point turns.

I’m loving this but is there a known issue where it loses your championship progress with a “discrepancy” between local save and the server? It’s happened to me twice, just now when I was about to start the last event in the championship, losing me a tonne of progress. I love the game but if it happens again it’s going to kill it for me.

I’ve read about a lot of server issues recently following the PS Plus release and increased load on servers (who’d have thought) so I expect it’s something to do with that. Presuming you’re not playing on multiple PS4s and screwing up your own save though :D.

I’m actually playing on Game Pass but it could still be the same issue I guess. Is there an option to play offline?
